New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi xysy25,

Yes, I failed in 2 categories, and I already passed my Professional module. I have also submitted the requirements for my Clinical which will be done in Australia.

One of the things that made me apply with ANSM was that they said they would assist me even with my assignments. They made sure I had a good one, before I submitted. They have the hospital for me for the 160 hours, but still awaiting for the exact date. Next will be my medical then visa.

I took the competency exam, but unluckily I was not able to pass the Professional and Clinical part. I had to take 1 module and the computation part of Clinical. The module of Clinical will be done in Australia which is 160 hours with a clinical instructor in a hospital. Awaiting for my schedule.

Hi grape, so sorry to hear about the module.. are you back in the philippines or are you in australia waitng for your clinical placement. ANSM is this the one with paul ? how much have spent all together just to get there..? how many are you there from ANSM ?

hi grape. the 160 placement is that part b? I emailed the Program administrator of CAS and he said that if you fail some areas in Part A there will be no Part B for you but you are directed to the modules instead. this got me confused because the way I understood it is that when you fail part A you have to take the modules you have failed and can proceed to part b. and the clinical component of Part A will determine whether you will take the 1 day clinical placement or the 160 hour clinical placement. can anyone clarify this?

@all also he told me that "Your Queensland Nursing Council letter of approval is valid for a 2 year period only". What does this mean? that as soon as you receive the letter from QNC you have to finish CAS from the day you receive the letter of approval to 2 years? Or that you must have enrolled in CAS within that 2 years? I thought the 2 year period given to complete CAS will start UPON ENROLLMENT in the program. can anyone clarify this too?

xysy25, i think from what i remember anastasi telling me when she was here at the expo was the 2 years actually begins when the Queensland Nursing Council sends you the letter stating that you have been approved. Thats when the time starts ticking down..

yes I think you are right. He confirmed it that it really starts from the time you have received the letter.

has anyone received an email from ACEC? or know anything about them? I would like to know more but when I read their TERMS and CONDITIONS.. it was written there that "On registration you agree to pay for our services as set out on our website". That's why I did not register on their website. in case you guys would like to check it out here's the link...

if you failed the professional, cultural and legal part, you need to take the online module.

it's not the same if you failed the clinical part.

failing the clinical part would mean that you need to take the corresponding online module and the 160 hrs clinical placement in Australia. The online module for the clinical part isnt actually graded. It's main purpose is to provide info about the common diseases, mortality, morbidity, surgcal prcdures, charting, nursng procedures etc. in Australia. Knowledge about it would greatly help you in the transition process as you complete the 160hrs hospital learning experience. it's the clinical placement that counts.

of course, assessment of clinical knowledge should depend on RLE.

once you passed the clinical placemnt and other modules, you would already directed to take the part B.

Hi nykhouston 2003,

Oh, I am done with my modules. With our program, they said we won't be coming back except for vacation. I am finished with my preparation for my clinical which will be in Australia. Yes, the CEO of ANSM is Sir Paul.

I paid less than 280k plus 40,000 for each failed module.

Hi xysy25,

We are not allowed to do the Clinical Part B if we have not met all the requirements of Part A. For me, I had to do my module for Professional because I failed that part. Since I also did not get 80% for my Clinical,

I have to take the 160 hours.

Re this, upon application to QNC, we have 2 years to finish the program.

thanks for the clarification.

@grape how long did it take before you finished the professional module? is it hard? how do they assess if you have passed the modules or not? do you have to do assignments? essays? quizzes? research?

thanks!

i have copies of actual modules

i am willing to trade. hehe.

and i am also willing to share it to anyone.

Aelith, hiya! (or anyone else who has an idea=))

Just want to ask.. what would happen if i will send my application without my board certificate? would an explanation letter stating that the release of it is delayed be sufficient? and that the certificate will just be sent later on when I get it? what happens when I will send an incomplete application:crying2:?

they will still accept your application but put on hold the processing until you completed the documents needed.. you are given i think 6 months to comply the documents which are lacking.. december 2007 NLE passers..
