Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
just curios, 456 visa is business short stay visa which is for "business people".. i assume you fall to this category thatz why you are intending to file for this type of visa.. how about with other nurses like me, i cannot apply for that visa because im not a "business people", thus nurses like me who would take the part b test should opt for the "visitor or tourist visa".. hope you could share your thoughts, i might have missed something which you could clarify,.. thank you..
I am neither applying nor planning to apply for a 456 visa. And this can be used by nurses who would undergo the bridging program.
I still have a very long way to go aelith, hehehehe! but i am hoping the journey will end down under!i will still probably post a lot of queries for all of you to answer here..
Well, at least you already took the first step. :) Let's just hope and pray we all make it.
You are very welcome to post more queries here. We will try our best to provide the information you need.
Good luck! :)
hi everyone, newbie here! i have been reading all of the threads on how to be a nurse in australia and i find it very helpful, specially for clueless and confused people like me. i'm glad i found such kind people who are willing to help others to live their dreams.
since i've found lots of info here, i've decided to try to get to australia by myself.=> although i'm sure i will be needing lots of help from you guys.
i've downloaded the application form from nmbwa. i just have a few questions re the needed documents:
initial registration certif -is this equiv to the board certificate from prc?
current practising certif/authority to practice -nursing lisence?
verification for initial registration -cert of good standing (based on previous posts) and, if i have only been registered once since i passed nle june 2007, is my current and initial one and the same?
thank you very much! :redpinkhe
has anyone paid for the application fee using a bank draft? is it the same with money order?
bank draft (facilitated by banks) is different from money order (normally facilitated by post office system)..
i assume your payment is for an Australian nursing board.. just would like to remind (for the sake of it) that the Australian nursing boards want to receive payments in the currency of Australian dollar.. therefore in your dealings with a bank or post office, clarify with said institutions that you want your payment to your payee in Australian currency (not US Dollar)..
i believe this is not possible with a regular Philippine bank because such could only issue bank draft in US Dollar currency.. you may try to check with an Australian bank like ANZ and Standard Chartered Bank, i think they could help you with issuing bank draft in Australian dollar currency..
that's why it is a bit convenient to pay via credit card, on the assumption that your credit card will not be hacked.. tsk tsk..

initial reg - yes, "board certificate" that you just recently claimed from prc..
current practicing - i guess yes, your "nursing license id".. just ask others if im correct on this one.. "current" and "initial" are not the same..
verification ---- if nbwa have "downloaded form for the verification" then use it and file it at prc.. if no form, then yes, file at prc for a "good sitting certificate"..
okiez..:) good luck.. just ask to anyone, everyone here are willing to help (except for that someone in uk who messed us up)..
hi cioman94..i think you have already read this but i'll just post again..
business (short stay) visa (subclass 456)
ideal for nurses to undertake an approved bridging or pre-registration program for less than three months. nurses who successfully complete the course may be able to apply in australia for a business long stay visa.

you already started processing your visa for queensland to get your part b clinical challenge test? if you are for queensland, i could give you the email of a person there who can help you somehow about your visa if you want..
btw, i will just pm you later about the material you mentioned. thanks so much!
thanks for the website,, got it, its clear indeed..
actually, the reason i pursued that curiosity is that, what if i obtained my australian license (but flew back and live for awhile in our country, for whatever reason), then i am wondering what visa i would apply for that would allow me to go to australia to find work as a nurse.. in this case, my idea is i would obtain tourist/visitor's visa and upon arrival in aus, find work, then file for 457 working visa once i got an employer.. i just dont know what will i declare in the aus embassy of the purpose of my tourist visa application, ya know, that im just a tourist and not there to apply for job..
anyways/./.
Thanks so much for the info.... would check the nursing board.Anyways, any luck on the reviewers for the challenge test?
would you think it also wise to go through an agency. So the faster we get to Auz the better cause we can get back what we invested already.
Can you imagine... to have experience in Manila, you still have to pay the hospitals.
If we pay an agency with employment assistance ( even for unexperienced) in 2-3 months upon employment in auz we can get beck what we paid for and we have 9 months of gain considering that there is 12 months in a year.
We have to get ahead of the pack.
if you have the budget, go for an agency with employment assistance as you said.. its a simple cost-benefit analysis, which you could easily compute with your fingers..:)
just my personal advice, do your best to earn experience and necessary skills while preparing and processing your papers.. imagine gaining your australian license then but losing it later because of malpractice due to inexperience or lack of skills..
They might get stricter there in the future.
my reply above, i mis type it there..:imbar:banghead:

You also have to keep in mind that tourist visas might have a no further stay condition - which means if granted with this condition, you cannot apply for any other visa whilst in Australia.
Also, registration in Australia is only good for one year and has to be renewed yearly. So, make sure you try to work there within the time allowed.
Another thing is, you can always apply for a 457 whilst in PI so no need for a tourist visa. It would be best to look for possible employers whilst in Australia when you are doing your Part B.
Goodluck! :)
hi meow mew,did you decide to sign up with ASNM? please share with us the progress of ur application. I'm attending there orientation in Cebu this sunday.
thanks thanks :nuke:
hi! yes i signed up with them already though i still have to retake ielts. i paid the initial fee that they were requiring and will be paying the second installment after 6 weeks. :wink2:
they were actually shocked that i signed up with them so quickly (just a week after attending their orientation) :chuckle coz usually nurses would take a month or so before finally deciding :chuckle but i dont want to waste time anymore..so yeah! im with them now...:wink2:
I have no work exp. (not even trainings) so i decided to sign up with them coz they also offer employment assistance after registration --- although it would mean paying another 1k AUD aside from 8950aud (originally, it was 9300 but mine was included in their promo )..
*BTW, im neither encouraging nor discouraging anyone to get their assistance..coz im juz taking risks here..
best of luck to us!

Thanks for the kind words.
As for nurses I know, I happen to know 2 who signed up who should be finished by now. I just have no communication with them lol. But the other one has been in Brissy since November.
