New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

sister aelith, i guess you can answer the above question..

Hehe.. I told her already what I have understood - that there are basically 4 modules with 1 module including both theory (workbook) & 160-hours practical component. This is as far as I have understood it only tho, so I am open to any corrections if this is wrong. :)

aelith or anyone:

in the previous pages, australian recruitment agencies were discussed.. to your advantage, the agencies will find an employer for you (but you will be working for a certain number of years as per contract) and will help or process the necessary documentary requirements for your work.. aside from these, what are the important points that we nurses should take note if we attached to an australian recruitment agency? do we have to pay "placement fees" (which i didn't find and read in their website)? will there be "deductions" to my salary as a "fee" to the agency? will i be earning lesser salary because of this arrangement? im just curious how these australian recruitment agencies earn money if i don't pay placement fees or whatever..

thanks anyone..

Placement fees are dependent on the agency's policy but it's always nice to check if they ask for this one. The salary deduction scheme is also nice to know if ever. Should there be a salary deduction, your fortnightly or weekly pay will be lessened by a certain amount every time for the agreed duration in the contract. But this doesn't mean that your basic salary will be lessened; it will still be the same offered salary, however, it will be lessened in the sense that the agency will have some fees deducted from it. Benefit is another thing you should ask from the employer or agency. And lastly, if you will be paying any fee should you violate anything in contract especially if you will discontinue your services with them, and how much will the fee be.

Actually, according to someone i know there, the agencies get a fee every pay day - which is either every week or per fortnight. Companies also pay them if they have successfully recruited workers for them. This is really from someone who had worked for an agency so yea.

hi i have a question about the transcript with RLE. does it need to have the number of theoretical hours? or just the transcript plus RLE? because that is what's written on the requirements. can anyone confirm this? esp those who already lodged their application

The RLE should bear the number of hours in each component. Payment for Part A challenge test is Au$260. Education modules would cost you $902 each.

yes, $158..

on another note, in the previous pages it was mentioned that the fee for the CAS Clinical/Part B Test is @ $504.. just a word of caution and hopefully somebody could confirm, there are 2 types of Part B Test: Simulated (in CAS testing office in Aus) and Actual (in accredited hospitals). i fear and i hope im wrong that the $504 is for the "actual" type, while the "simulated" has a fee of @ $734.. note that, we here in the philippines, going there in brisbane, is not allowed to take the "actual" type unless you comply or are qualified of certain requirements like immunization certification, etc. :twocents:

correct me if im wrong, anyone...

i thought Actual clinical exam is for nurses who have enough clinical experience from their country of origin...and the simulated is for nurses who havent got enough experience...but then nurses who are set to take the actual exam wont be able to take it if they lasck immunization requirements?

so how we get a certification of immunization?

thanks aelith! as usual, you've been very helpful! that's great, i would tell them about your director friend....how do i get hold of you? thanks a bunch girl!

hotpotato101, actually my friends are not very choosy at this time. i guess, they are quite desperate because their visa is going to expire soon. from what they told me, they sent their resumes in every job openings for rns that they know of. they said, they got turned down by most hospitals because they lack experience- mind you they worked in a govt. hospital in the Phils. for 3 years before going to melbourne. so these events really got me kind of apprehensive . well, ill be hearing from them soon. i will definitely update you guys!

Hi Kajada, I was wondering if you could elaborate more about your friends? Where did they get turned down ? Was this in Melbourne. Where they already registered with Victoria or did they apply for a bridging program or work? Thanks

whether one should take the "actual" or the "simulated" that i dont know accurately, i am just raising that such things exist which need to be clarified (and i hope im wrong with my opinion)..

with regards to immunization.... you can consult with the accredited Australian embassy doctor/s in your city.. the doctor will either issue a certification, or a vaccination card (duly signed by doctor) like Hepa B or A, chicken pox, or the doctor may require you to go through a serological test which will show your immunity of diseases which the australian health authority requires you to be vaccinated... in either case, even if such is not needed now, it will be needed later when you apply for nursing job in australia..

how about if the applicant is a migrant and has lived in australia for years already? i mean migrants before entering australia will undergo a complete medical exam and that includes hepa etc...

hi. i have a check list of the requirements needed for QNC application. on the last part, I saw this...

Enquiries from other people about your application on your behalf

For privacy reasons the QNC is unable to discuss any aspect of your application with any other person unless you complete a statutory declaration and send it to QNC. A statutory declaration is a written statement of facts which the person making the declaration (this person is normally called the declarant) signs and declares to be

true. Statutory declarations must be signed in the presence of a qualified witness. In Queensland, a qualified witness is a justice of the peace, commissioner for declarations, notary public, barrister, solicitor, conveyancer or other person authorised by law to administer an oath.

The declaration must state the name and contact details of the individual you are authorising to act on your

behalf.

in relation to QNC application and Test B requirements, sorry i cant accurately answer the question as i mentioned in my previous posts.

in relation to applying for nursing job in any australian hospitals, definitely you will be required to show evidence of your immunization, the forms will vary depending on the hospitals..
