New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Yah thanks.. I am in limbo now he he.:(

Haha. There are a lot of people here going for CAS so you can ask here if you have any questions for that one.

hi, yes australia maybe sticter in accepting immigrants, but there would be some exceptions or would be a case to case basis.. i mean first of all you will apply there on a "working visa" therefore you are not yet a "pure" immigrant.. Australia won't care to give you working visa as along as they need nurses, but yes perhaps they may be a bit stricter about granting permanent residency.. Nonetheless, once the economy rebounds they will loosen up, and by then you will be qualified for PR.. so i dont think you/we have to worry much about it as of now, bcoz we are applying for 457 working visa (not yet the PR).

chevogirl, do you have any nurse friends who have finished or doing their competency assessment program? what do you expect of the program? easy or hard? do you think your 4-5 months exp. is sufficient to pass the clinical placement part of the program? :)

thanks for the info. anyway, i have a friend who's going in january so ill let you know when she gets there....however, she has friends at her "agency" who said that the bridging program is challenging but not difficult...as long as you demonstrate that you are competent...you'll have no problems passing it. im not expecting it to be that easy but i think i can manage to pass it too...ive always put my best in everything and i always manage to be successful at it..thank God. for me it's not the length of your experience that counts but how well you do your job ;) so far, im having a great time volunteering in the hospital and im learning a lot. besides, im thinking...time is of the essence. if i delay taking the bridging program, i might lose momentum and opportunity considering everything that's being flashed in the news right now. so, what im really doing is striking while the iron is hot. :nuke: btw, if it helps i have a friend who had totally no experience and applied in Perth...she already passed the Bridging course and just got a contract...so, there's hope ;) hope that answers your questions.

Haha.. leader? there's no such thing lol. :p But yea, would be awesome to see everyone there later on :) Looking forward to that! By the way, I didn't create the thread hehehe.. :)

Yes, I have posted that news a few days ago here. There are rumors about the 457 visas being lesser in number but its still a rumor. It is mainly because there has been quite a few lay-offs too in Australia because of the global economic status.

really you did? hehe this thread is getting so many posts that i havent been able to catch up on all that's being written. anyway, yeah, i guess i have to speed up on my application even if it's still what...four months away...hehe i am kind of embarrassed to lodge my visa applic as early as now because my friend said it only takes one week for releasing...do you think it's practical to apply as early as now or wait till january? i dont want to come off as the eager beaver and all hehe but i kind of am...quite psyched.

For applicants of Western Australia who doesn't have any hospital experience, the bridging course is facilitated by Curtin University of Technology only (1 semester bridging course and the fee is $Au 10,800). IF you have 1 year hospital experience, you can apply with Hollywood Private Hospital (3 months bridging course and the fee is at least $800). For those with 2 years hospital experience you can apply with the Dept. of Health in Western Australia (theory by distance learning and 1 month bridging course (clinical) and the fee is around $2000+).

The board of nursing in western australia can evaluate your credentials and get back to you as early as 2 weeks. If you are interested with Curtin University, commencement of program for the bridging course will be February 2009. Intake deadline until Dec. 2008.

There is also a degree conversion course in Curtin University. Instead of two years (like in NSW), you can complete this in 1 year. This is the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) Registered Nurse Conversion. This is a degree course for registered nurses. Entry requirements would be passing IELTS and minimum 3-year initial registration course and hold a current registration in their home country.

I think based on this post, you can still lodge your application in NMBWA and take the bridging course even if you have zero experience. The only problem is that the fee is so expensive lah!

Hi everyone. I contacted QNC today to check on my application. I've learned that I am now eligible for the CAS and should wait for the letter to arrive. I'm just too excited. I hope I can sched for December 2008 for the challenge test. If not, I'll settle for Jan 2009. It's a very long wait. At least 3 months. Good luck everyone.

Wow, this is good news kit25, Congrats! :yeah: Good luck!

Western Aus and Queensland are the cheapest by far. NSW's program is 10k AUD.

I have read QNC's website and it says ... "transcript must state

3. set out in detail the course content

Example: Bio 111 - Biology - 75 - 3

3. dates of commencement and completion

4. number of hours of theoretical instruction and clinical experience

almost done. thanks in advance for those who would answer me... and sorry for asking too many questions. hehe. just making sure. to avoid mistakes.

then answer from which institution/school you came from.

No endorsements yet. In the USA, endorsement mean that you are like transferring your license from one state to another. Like I, I transferred my Ca license in VT. This is endorsement. in OZ, this means that you hold registration in another state in OZ or in NZ and would like to transfer your registration in QLD. So basically, this is not applicable to you. Just write n/a there.

Professional Regulation Commission - Board of Nursing (this is what I did)

website: prc.gov.ph

Transcript: Just send your transcript. Almost all TORs in the Philippines are the same and when I passed mine, they didn't made further notes about it. For the number of hours, I passed my RLE. (not the manual) Yup that is seperate from the transcript. so it's like for the course outline i passed. 2pgs - TOR, 1pg - RLE.

A bit OT but not quite: :D

(TO: IELTS passers who scored 7.5 up on the WRITING test)

Question, anyone here who took the IELTS and got 7.5 or 8 on the writing part?? Any good soul here who can help me out? I took my IELTS before and got 6.5 on my writing and apparently, I failed the IELTS. that's the only thing missing :crying2::crying2: I passed everything except that Writing thing huhu.

I'll be taking it again next month and I would really, really appreciate if you can help me with my writing. Please!!!!!
