New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

when did you send them? i heard there's deadline for ub-wli 2010 intake? i just got my letter from NBV that's why ill start sending applications now. Can I ask what are the requirements you sent? I have to wait 10 days for my NBI clearance because apparently my name is common.

Thanks!

Hi, I went to WLI yesterday and they are still offering places for the September intake. U can apply online and they respond within hours or the next day. But the conditional offer letter I got have July 15th as a dead line for payment and any other requirements to be met. But I found them to be quite flexible.....

Hi guys! Who among you are planning to join University of Ballarat - William Light Institute's IRON for the September intake? The campus is in Adelaide, SA.:clown:

And one thing more. Regarding the Acceptance into an Approved Program Notification (the form that we will be mailing prior to commencing the bridging), will NBV's postal address there still apply? I am talking about GPO Box 4932 Melbourne VIC 3001 Aussie. Or are we going to utilize another form of correspondence for that matter? AHPRA's mailing address, perhaps?

Thank you so much.

Hi nasruasim!

I understand that upon acceptance of their provisional offer, you must have paid the program fee of AUD$10,000, included a copy of the bank receipt and your doctor must have filled out and signed the Confirmation of Specific Evidence Provided form intended for the record of immunisations.

However, one thing still remains unclear to me. On July 15, do you need to have the 456 visa already or is it fine if you just show them proof that you applied for the visa? I am still hesitant to grab the offer because I have not seen from anyone's posts that University of Ballarat has an opportunity for early exit - 12 weeks is really the duration of the bridging program, according to the program coordinator. I am thinking that 3 months is not enough for registration upon completion of the course and looking for prospective employers to convert your visa to 457. So as I see it, a 456 visa will not be enough, unless you are granted the condition of "With further stay" and some other sort.

Newmac presented to me certain options like staying a day or two in Singapore or Fiji, or transit in NZ to remedy this condition, but I don't have enough evidence that it could be made possible.

Hope you can shed some light regarding this concern. Thanks in advance!

the wa government anticipates that the national legislation will be passed in august 2010 and proclaimed and operational by 18 october 2010. it is anticipated that this date will be the new date for western australia's entry into the national registration and accreditation scheme.

Can anyone please help me find a source that says WA is rejecting the NRAS and that WA is being pressured to join the NRAS? I just think that it would be an interesting read. Thanks.:smokin:

It's in my abc app

love this thread, it's really informative. :)

well, I wish everyone good luck, especially to those who have pending applications, hope APHRA gives Filipino nurses a chance.

Have heard of QNC and NSW assessing Filipino nurses qualified as enrolled nurses or it's either they just take the conversion program for 1-2 years. Let's all hope for the best, cheers!

what abc app, terdjay?

no. im not sure. theres no assurance that you will be offered a job.

yes i think so..it is easier to get a job in regional victoria because in metro melb theres a lot of competition.

deakin has tied up with hospitals around melbourne...if there are no vacancies then thats the time you will be sent to regional vic. only two of us where assigned to portland which is really far from melb. and one of them went back to india as her visa expired and she cant land a job...oh well, things happened.

hi, it doesnt matter, as during the aged care placement you will be taught on how to be an aged care RN...

nothing much really, you just need to know on how to deal with old people, most of them are demented, incontinent, etc...

having a background in general medicine would help you...:)

Hi ryan! I'm kinda new here :-) i read a few pages of this thread and i believe that you took the BP and currently has a job as an RN in melbourne. I'm also planning to do the BP but right now I'm still waiting for the assessment from NBV. I've lodged my documents first week of May and i haven't received any reply from NBV yet. And i have a few questions regarding the work opportunities of Filipino nurses there who took the BP. I've heard from a friend that nurses who had conversion program has higher chances of having job offers than nurses who had BP. Is this true? She said that nurses who took the BP will only be offered an EN position and not an RN. Can you please give us an idea about the employment situation of nurses there in Melbourne, especially those nurses who took the BP. I'm also worried because I don't have any hospital experience. I'm a 2009 graduate, and i haven't worked in any hospital since. Thank you so much and it would really be appreciated if you can Pm me or reply to this post. Thanks again and God Bless! :-)
