New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

u

chabeli, wanna ask in case you have the answer-- the accredited doctor will send directly the medical check up result to the aus embassy.. if i would have my medical check up let's say 1 month prior the actual lodging of visa application, does it mean that the doctor will temporarily hold on to my medical results or will he immediately send the medical results to aus embassy eventhough i have not yet filed application??

thanks as always,,

i know this question is for @chabeli...

but in my case, you have to apply for a visa first before you comply with the medical requirement...the australian embassy will then track any accredited doctors or hospital near your place to conduct the medicals for you...the embassy will send you a correspondence regarding this, and then it will be your job to contact the nominated doctor/hospital to arrange an appointment date..:)

i dont know others case, but you cant just go to any doctor and do the medicals...they should be australian embassy accredited.

you may have it in australia or in the philippines, any doctor will do, as long as you will keep a record of it..its important..:)

Thank you for replying,needlefoxRN!

Obrigada,dumb!

Ryan did you go to a GP first or went directly to a laboratory for your serology test? Is the GP consulation and lab test under medicare? Lastly, how much did you spend in all to complete the vaccine form? Thanks

i chose to go to my GP and ask for a "prescription" for a set of tests.then forwarded it to the pathology...yes it is under medicare and some of the vaccines are under medicare, however there some vaccines which you have to pay...i think ive paid $150 or so for the vaccines.

serology tests can be done in the university as well as vaccinations as there are nurse immunizers in the uni...:)

Hi! i'm a silent reader of this forum, but i've been visiting this site almost everyday. I just can't help but ask you guys about how I can work there in Australia as a nurse?

I am a Filipino RN based in Cebu City, passed the NLE last 2009, currently doing volunteer work at a secondary hospital for maternal and pediatric cases, and currently studying my MN as an MCN major to kill extra time (because I cannot find a regular job here as a staff nurse). I'm now planning to review and take the IELTS before or by the end of this year.

My mum and my half-brother lives in Melbourne (20 yrs and counting), and I've been there last December as a tourist. Their healthcare services are excellent compared here in the Philippines.

To terdjay, and all the others, do you think I'm qualified to enter a BP in Melbourne? Will they credit my work as a volunteer staff nurse, especially in a secondary hospital?

Thanks so much. :)

Oh sure... You're very much welcomed here. Start gathering your moolahs as early as now
