New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Ryan, those students who did their clinical placement in sale, Seymour, Portland, and warrnambool, were they offered a job at the hospital where they did their placement? These are in regional Victoria. Probably easier to find a job here?

What hospitals are affiliated with deakin? Are there some of your classmates who were destined in regional victoria?

how will I start? I wanted to apply to australia.

I am a Phil RN,BSN,a second courser, with 4 mos experience in icu. like others im an nclex passer too.

Guys please help.

These hospitals welcome, nurses with loads of experience, don't think that there are too many in Victoria that would welcome a nurse with no paid experience, thats what is lacking in our nursing workforce as it is an ageing workforce has been for years because, nursing has been low paid and crap hours, nurses in the past have left in droves, so there are no middle of the road nurses so to speak, especially in the country. These country hospitals are feeder hospitals for the local universities, so they usually have many locals applying for their grad programs and therefore do not need nurses with little or no experience. They are supposed to employ local nurses with little experience, that want to remain in the area. The local country universities and many of the city universities have increased quite considerably nursing places over the past 2-3 years, so there will be many new nurses with no experience, home grown from next year.

@terdjay, youre welcome.

yes ive made a stat dec before. but the nbv wasnt very strict that time, they just required me to make a "signed letter" stating this and that. now, i believe you have to obtain a specific form in order for you to do it...

yeah Chadstone, its just a one bus ride away..its our "church" :D . chadstone shopping centre one of the reasons why melbourne is dubbed as the fashion capital of australia. but then Philippine malls are way to better than their australian counterpart...Rob Manila or SM Megamall is 5x better than chadstone for me...

when is the next intake of deakin by the way?

to all of you who are a bit concerned of the australian hospital setting..you can go to youtube and search for "all saints", thats a tv medical drama program in australia...its a great tv show specially the daytime edition and not the nightime...you can see how nurses fucntion in the hospital and how they interact with other health professionals and patients...:)

yeah, the malls here are not that impressive if you compare to the ones we have back home... :) you will get bored at how small they are :) hey, Ryan, Mt. Buller?

oh just got updates from our batch that most got jobs already... mostly in aged care. so only 2 cambe back to their countries without a job.

Which has better job opportunity after bp? Hospitals (castlemaine, etc), agencies (etea) or uni (deakin, etc)?

I wanted to be independent after the bp but if no hospital job after the bp I might as well go back to my family in rural wa.

I want to skii too at mt buller. Maybe after the bp next year. I'm looking forward going to Vic. All right!

Wow congrats newmac! thanks a lot for your posts.. you give us an everlasting hope..hehe

anyway, i've just recently sent my stat dec last month also and i'm hoping i could also go to etea by sept.

by the way, if you dont mind, would it be possible for you to post the exact amount the embassy will require of you. and the other financial docs required..

lastly, have you completed all the vaccinations?

thanks mynalla. im not an expert with the aus embassy requirements, and money reqts depend on the vis type you will apply for. vaccinations? that's my next research, i think i read before you can them once you're in oz. im just not so sure. have to pm chabeli and ryan, dred & reiken. :)
