New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Does anybody knew Shiv Sans Limited because I am interested in there Australian Bridging Program for overseas nurses.

your help is highly appreciated.

try to contact them because their location is in UK...and do ask if they cater RP nurses,,,,,,,

newbie here...anyone here from flinders university?....IDP told me last week that the education from that university is cheaper than others plus the BSN post-reg program is good up to 1 year (intake 2011)....my only problem is I don't have relatives in AU so no one could "finance "(show money) to my studies...need help regarding financing....

Ok I think I already understand about the two year program.

I'll take the certificate iv nursing for two years and after that I'll be an EEN/Div 2 nurse. So if I already have enough money, I can just take the conversion course to Div1.

Now I checked the NMIT and they do not offer Cert. iv nursing. So it's either they don't have it yet or they will offer me the Community Service work instead, and I don't think I like that option.

So I guess, I'll just ask NMIT if they have certificate iv nursing, and ask for the fee. So that I can really determine my budget and decide if I'll take BP instead.... or I can just find another TAFE school that offers the certificate iv nursing.

Sheesh! This is so complicated. Anyway, thanks "Poower" for making me aware that there's no "Nursing" listed in the site. I should have checked it earlier and not assumed that they have it. So thanks. :)

hi! are you pertaining to Flinders South Australia? I am hoping to get there next year instead of UniSA because you're right, the tuition is more affordable. I am already here in S.A. just waiting for some papers so I could pass it to IDP-Adelaide. As to your finances, relatives in other countries can help you. You just have to request bank certificate/statement from them. somebody answered that query in this site. I think it's a sort of guarantee that relatives abroad can assist you, not necessarily from Australia but others who are abroad. Maybe you can back read 100 pages from here.....the forumers are a big help. Ryan was the 1 who enlightened me 1st here. hahah!

Hello there. You've mentioned IDP and I've checked there website. Do they really give free counseling? Do you know what school they are tied up to?

Hi from Australia,:wink2:

I´m a BSN 1980 CPU graduate of Iloilo City. Worked in Germany in Aged Care which I enjoyed so much. Since 2007 we moved back to Australia to live because my husband got a job here. Anyway, coming here as a International Reg. Nurse, you have to pass an IELTS test with the Band score of 7 out of 9. 6.5 for Listening and Reading, and 7.0 for writing and speaking. So I suggest

that you get your IELTS ACADEMIC test first in the Philippines. Get into the

Australian website for sponsorship visa. Nurses are in high demand here in

Australia. Get all your papers ready, Registration papers from PRC, transcript

of records from Uni, Birth certificate. The Nursing Board here requires either

Sponsorship or Residence Visa. Hospitals here are flooded with filipino nurses.

Good luck !:yeah:

hi!! i am a registered nurse midwife in the philippines. i hav 2 years experience, graduated last march 2007 and we recently migrated here in australia, i just want to ask is it possible for me to be a registered nurse in australia or i should i be an enrolled nurse first? i am really lost right now, i don't know what should i do first. thanks!

@reiken don't lose hope... look at the brighter side -at least you've already heard somethin. by the way, who is your case manager [via pm]? ...maybe we have the same case manager:lol2:.

NBV just received [yesterday] the documents they requested from me. I hope my case manager would be considerate enough assess my documents again with respect to my initial timeline. Otherwise, I shall harass her every week. :p

Now, im thinking about applying to NMBWA... i hope it's not too late. do they require work experience?

hello wingcharm. it depends on where you want to go. i'm here in south australia and they are tied up with University of South Australia and Flinders Uni. Better yet, e-mail them. They will respond right away. And yes, they give free counselling, with no strings attached. :)

Ok thanks. I surely will! I find them more reliable and have more connections. So I'll just check it out. ^^

wingcharm, still can't send you a pm. i'm 5posts short.....4 i mean.....

to answer your question: i tried to work here as an aged carer. i was suppose to start last january but i got sick then found out that i am pregnant. it would cost me 500aud. i went to 2 skills assessment center here and they are not recommending nursing graduates to work as an aged care. i showed my credentials and was told to just study for a year and a half since their bridging program is put on halt until july. plus, i would like to have a more extensive study since my brain is getting rusty. hahah! south has different rules as compare with other states. they told me they are stricter. i was also suppose to study this february but they have satac (tertiary admissions center)and closing date was november 8. so i'm eyeing february of next year.
