New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

@drednag: have tried calling?

@drednag: have tried calling?

i emailed nbv last week newmac and they replied that they have received my application, verification and ielts already. but they said that my documents are still to be assessed.

[color=#483d8b]i did not call anymore. i might call end of this month if there's no update yet.

[color=#483d8b]

[color=#483d8b]how about you?

@drednag

Blinq is having a hard time with her student visa. Unluckily, the case manager for her visa is on leave since December and will be back on April and she's enrolled already for the February 15 intake at Curtin. She lodged her application last November '09 thru IDP Cebu. Another Curtin batch mate of hers lodged her application independently almost the same time as she did but the batch mate got hers approved already. So she moved her intake to July. Are you, Blinq and I the only ones from NVC? :)

I have not decided where to take the IRON but I really want to get into a university instead of the private colleges/education providers like VCHN. Do you guys think that where you take the IRON will matter if we will apply work already?

@Haoyin

I am corresponding with a certain person regarding the early application at Latrobe while waiting for the NBV letter. Maybe they won't be assessing it completely until I forward them the letter but at least my application will get to them early so they will just have to remind me to send them the eligibility. Thanks for the tips again!

@NewMac

Got your e-mail! :)

Good luck everyone!! And happy vday too :)

It's been a while since I last visited the thread... How's everyone here? My batchmates drednag, NewMac, and others? I surmise u guys are not as bored as I've been. hehe! :anbd::yawn:... still on the look out for that "life-changing" letter from NBV... whew! How time flies? (A better-sounding way of saying it's darn draaaaaaaagging) It's already been 2 months.... Good thing I've been busy. Perhaps, we'll have to keep waiting. After all tomorrow is another day...:p

@haoyin: A group meetup is ideal but I'm not really certain if that is feasible at this time due to geographical locations of each of the members here who are Victoria bound. For one, NewMac, I believe is in Canada (i think, correct me NewMac) and drednag and wahine888 are based in Davao, while I and the rest are currently here in Manila. :D

Btw, Happy Hearts Day and Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! *wine

Hello fellas! Just wondering, has anybody in this thread applied for NBV and got a negative result? Like, someone who was not given eligibility because she/he wasn't not qualified or those who were assessed but not as RNs?

Hi everyone.... like some peeps here, I too am a second courser. Wahine888, I think we have a similar case and timeline.

May I suggest to all those waiting for their approval to post their month and year of document submission to NBV so we have can have a ballpark idea of how long it takes to get approved? Just a suggestion ... :)

Good to read from you jakey

Yes, I reckon we're the latest to apply at NBV. NewMac, countmein and the rest lodged their application late last year. Haoyin's account of her experience shows that it takes about 3-6 months before the NBV release results of application. I think I've read in this thread that Physteac's niece got hers in just 1 month. Where do you plan to take the IRON? :)

Here's my timeline:

Sent application package and Good standing from PRC to NBV- Feb. 9, 2010

Application package delivered to NBV - Feb. 12, 2010

Reading from the posts here, I am keen on Uni of Ballarat, Deakin , and la Trobe , in that order. I just hope I can still make it to AUS this year. 3 to 6 months of waiting seems an awfully long time. I just hope the documents we submitted will suffice and be approved soon. Which school have you decided on?

Top 3 Unis are: Deakin, Latrobe and Ballarat, in that order. The latest intake is August for Ballarat but application will close on March 20. Latrobe doesn't have a closing date for application but if we wait for 3-6 months for the eligibility, I don't think we can make it. I really want to finish the IRON this year because it seems Australia is getting stricter. Maybe next year they have new rules and requirements again, I don't want to go through a harder time so as much as possible, like you, I hope I can make it to Oz this year. So, I might probably take the IRON in private colleges (VCHN, etc.) which offer the IRON almost every month until November '10

I do have another concern and I hope someone out there can give their opinion on this one. Since I think it will be a LONG wait for the result of the NBV application, I am thinking of working in Singapore in the meantime so I can also save up for accommodation in Oz. My question is: Is it ok to apply for Australian Visa in Singapore even if I will be on a Long Term Social Visit Pass only and not as a Permanent Resident of SG? Coz if I apply from there, should my medical certificate and vaccinations be acquired from SG or is fine if I take it here in the Philly? This might not be related to the thread anymore but I'm just trying to see is somebody out there knows anything about this. Thanks!

happy valentine's everyone!

@reiken, [it's been awhile] didnt know there was an invitation for a meet-up, unfortunately, i can't because of my distance, im not in ca but i will be few miles away from ca in a few weeks time.

@everyone: i must say it's been hard keeping up with the posts here, with the massive influx of ideas and EMOtions., :) I apologize if I happen not to reply to any posts directed to me though im online most of the time.

This thread is already 419pages, hasn't anybody thought of starting a new one? like a thread for those who are already in VIC and are already doing their BP. Sure, they're busy but their blogs would really be appreciated by us who are preparing for our "possible" life" in Oz. While this thread has remain indeed informative, it has at times focused unintentionally on anxiety and confusion which are deemed by me as both unnecessary [and inevitable]. But then again, this is just me. While we are trying to get an idea based on others' experiences [this pertains in particular to the assessment waiting period, submission of addidtional documents etc.], let us remember each case is unique and will be/is dealt [assessed] [may be] in a totally different way. [Peace]

@drednag, me too i have postponet my weekly call to NBV. I will 'em on the last friday of feb. :p

@countmein any news from yours?

I agree with you NewMac. This thread already has a lot of pages and newcomers tend to ask questions that were already answered in the previous pages. Though I think that posters here have every right to voice out their emotions (anxiety and confusion) because if there were no anxiety and confusion to post then none of the information in this 400+ page thread would be in existence. People respond to anxious questions of other posters and new information are added. However not all new info added might interest all posters because it does not apply to their particular need for information. Me for instance, since I haven't applied with NBV I tend to just skim over posts related to it. But yes, because this thread is kinda generic in the sense that it does cater to all applicants who are AU bound then like you I suggest that this thread be closed. Perhaps those who are bound for Victoria might want to continue with this thread here:

https://allnurses.com/international-nursing/bridging-program-victoria-350995.html

And those who are bound for Queensland can go to the other thread:

https://allnurses.com/international-nursing/any-queensland-nurses-312476.html

And those who are NSW bound (like me) can continue here:

https://allnurses.com/international-nursing/know-everything-about-418222.html

No offense to anybody but I think that it would be better if we can segregate the topics so that we won't have difficulty reviewing information; and also for the sake of newcomers so that they won't be confused. At least, for posters who are bound for, let say QLD.. can ask and whine all they want and no other poster would think that the emotions flowing in that particular thread is unnecessary :)

Peace! :nurse:

I would also be interested in this query of yours. I also wanna know if there are people who were given assessments other than Registered Nurses by other boards aside from QNC. I doubt NBV or other boards for that matter will reject applications straight out and not give "eligibility". They might just assess applicants as either ENs or EENs (like what QNC did to most second coursers who were given assessments during the latter part of last year). Though I have yet to hear or read from a poster who was assessed as such by other nursing boards. I honestly hope there's none. Believe me it's a very anxious and confusing experience, getting a letter and anticipating a positive response, only to find out that you weren't assessed as an RN... :)
