Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
NMBWA also told me that my letter of eligibility will be sent to me within this week (since last last last week).. hmmmmmmmm.... im afraid to get them annoyed that's why i email them atleast once a week for an update.. i hope to get it in few days coz im badly waiting to see it before i accept my offer in curtin.. dont want to waste money..needs assurance first..
Hey, yayey!
Oh, so you already applied at Curtin and got an offer even without the letter of eligibility? I didnt know we can do that. What did you submit?

i applied through idp manila.. maybe u can ask curtin if it is really required to obtain the letter before application.. i was already notified by NMBWA counselor about my application before i applied to curtin..
hi can u guys enlighten me regarding nmbwa. i applied with nbv so i have no idea with nmbwa. upon acceptance do you take the same iron program wherein you have to study for about 12-13 weeks? so meaning if they say that you will have your eligibility does that mean it's already the approval letter so you can undergo the bp? i'm asking because i want to know if they process applications faster than nbv and if you guys are going to take the same iron course after assessment.thanks.
hi, haoyin... nmbwa is the nursing council at western australia (wa).
i applied at nbv and nmbwa, since i wanted to have several options ready... :) i think most of the available bridging course providers at wa for 2010 intake are those with bridging course duration of 2 semesters. the others (royal perth hospital, hollywood private hospital) no longer have available slots for the 2010 intake.
if im not mistaken, the letter of eligibility from nmbwa is like the positive assessment letter already and it is what you present to the bridging course provider for you to proceed with the course.:yeah:so, if i get the letter of eligibility, i will be applying to take the briding course...problem is, there are limited providers now in wa.
iron is what the bridging course is usually referred to in the state of victoria, under the nbv. but, i believe, this will have the same effect with the bridging course given in wa : make us eligible for registration as division 1 rn in that particular state.
as to the length of processing time...it would appear that nmbwa processes applications faster that nbv. on the downside, bridging courses currently available in wa are of one year duration, unless we wait for the 2011 intake of rph and hph...or go to vchn.
i hope i answered your queries...:)
good luck to all of us!!!

Yeah, I should have done that too.. I actually received a letter way back in November 2009, from my NMBWA counselor and she stated in her letter I got positive assessment but they will give me a letter of eligibility to proceed with the bridging course after I submit my IELTS (I just took the IELTS last December, hence, the delay). Luckily, I passed the IELTS. I just wanted to be super sure that is why I am now waiting for the actual letter of eligibility before I submit any applications...

same here.. still waiting.. i always got "next week" from NMBWA weekly... harhar.. i think u have to decide on wat state to obtain registration.. then ur course provider.. before everyone makes it to australia.. slots are getting smaller.. im already decided to take BP at curtin...

I guess it will really be costly to take up BP in Western Australia if the programs would usually be a 1 year course. And reading your posts seems that they even require a 1 year working experience or is this limited to VCHN?
Anyway, if NMBWA processes applications faster then the long wait with NBV including the 3 months BP would perhaps offset the 1 year program of providers under NMBWA (if costs of living won't be an issue). And how about their tuition? I would think the tuition will also be double of that under NBV since it's 2 semesters?
I posted earlier that applying for student's Visa has gotten stricter now and they require a larger show of funds. Yesterday, I was speaking with my agent and they said that someone who sought the services of IDP just got rejected with a show money of 1M pesos because according to them it wasn't enough for tuition and living expense for 1 year.
That's why I was keen in searching about the required funds in applying for student's visa. Oh well... The things we have to go through...
hi, wahine888, thanks for replying. i take it that you received your letter of eligibility from nmbwa already? good for you:yeah: i am waiting for my nbv assessment result also. i filed my application last december 2009, still no word until now.however, just like you, i also applied at nmbwa and they told me that they have mailed my letter of eligibility already. i guess that's positive, huh?
i guess i will just have to wait and see where all these will lead me...
hello drednag! i applied in murdoch and they don't require eligibility from nmbwa. after finishing the program then you can apply for eligibility and registration with nmbwa. i also got the letter of acceptance from murdoch just yesterday but i'm hesitant to enroll because of the expenses- tuition fee and living expense for one year. my priority is really latrobe or ballarat since the iron is just 3 months but i sent my application to nbv just last week and it's a slim chance that i will make it to this year's intake in the unis if nbv will not grant me eligibility on time. then there's vchn and they have intakes almost every month but they require 1-year experience which i don't have. i will still push my luck and apply at vchn though. and just in case nbv won't give eligibility, then murdoch's the last resort.
whoa, 2 months already and no words from nbv yet? what courier did you use? did you submit all requirements?
if you get your nmbwa eligibility, which institution will you enroll in? :)
@Haoyin, yup, you are right..the duration of the bridging course and the costs of the 1 year course far offsets that time difference between the processing of NBV and the NMBWA...that's why I am interested in VCHN, if I do pursue the WA bridging... Hopefully my NBV letter will arrive sooner than soon..hehehe..
@wahine888, yeah..too much time has passed...I think NMBWA received my IELTS last January since I had my IELTS results sent in the second week of January 2010. If I get my NMBWA eligibility, I am thinking maybe VCHN since I have more than a year of nursing experience...but if they will require 1 year experience in med-surg, I might not be qualified. But, to be truly honest, I would really love to do the bridging at ETEA or LaTrobe...since I have friends and relatives in Melbourne...that is why I am really hoping my NBV letter of positive assessment arrives sooner than soon...:)
I wish everyone lots of luck!!!

I believe nowadays you have to wait at least 2-3 months before NBV starts assessing your documents and if in any rare circumstance that you were able to meet all the necessary requirements of NBV then you will get approved right away. So upon application it will approximately take you 3 months. That said, it is rare that they are immediately satisfied with all that you passed without the need for any revisions or requisitions of further documents, therefore the normal average length of time for you to finally get your approval would be 6 months.
Then again, I am solely basing this from my own experience and from all others that I know who applied. And also, from speaking to my case manager who said that applications now will take a while before it gets assessed and approved as they have numerous influx of applicants...
I hope you will be lucky to get assessed fast.

hello, may i ask anybody who could answer my query:
after 2 months of BP under either student or short stay visa, you will be applying and (positive thinking) be hired as a nurse in Australia, hence, you will now process the conversion of your existing visa into 457 visa (working visa).. how long is it to process the 457 visa? weeks? 3 months? .. in that case, will you stay in australia for 3 months waiting for your 457 visa which would be very costly in terms of daily expenses? or will you go back here in the phils. and wait for your 457 visa here?
thanks..
