New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

How long ago was it they applied and obtained UK work permit as a nurse? Currently the UK has high unemployment and to work in the UK NHS you need to be experienced in an area that is classed on the shortage job occupation list.

about less than a year ago, they were ICU nurses for 2 years here in the Phils.

@ Newmac

I cannot really answer your question lol =)

Surely, the 20 hours work will ease your expenses. But personally i wouldn't care if it is a student visa, tourist visa or occupational trainee visa as long as i finish the BP program and get a license.Hehe

occupational visa and its work restrictions. this is what it says:

the occupational traineethe occupational trainee - not engage in work in Australia (other than in relation to your course of study or training).

does this mean you CAN work in a health care facility [part-time] but not as a bar tender [or whatever] ???

hello nurses,

hows everyone? hope you're doing well..:)

its been a little while since ive been here, im just a bit busy doing the BP..anyway, @NewMac, i have to call ETEA to confirm it myslef, if the institution is still a CRICOS school..if not, then maybe they were before...

all in the pic are filipinos except for the three other nationalities...we were doing a lecture of Legal and Ethical Nursing...

we are 28, 10 filipinos, 2 africans, 1 carribean, 2 japanese, 2 israelites, and the rest are indians...:)

their other courses are CRICOS registered but their BP course is not.

Hi chocokat,I guess most overseas applicant pick Victoria over NSW because VIC have plenty of BP providers to choose from while NSW has only one and their is a possibility that your application for competency assessment/bp will be refuse.

Thanks for the reply bro... Oh well, I guess I'll just have to take my chances. I already sent them my application form and other requirements last Friday and my credit card was charged of the application fee on Monday. I'll send you a PM now...

Guys, do you know anyone/someone who was denied by NMB-New South Wales?

Wow, ryan..nice pic...you all seem very very happy!!! good for you, guys!!! Hoping to be in your shoes sooner than soon... right, classmates NewMac and reiken??? hehehe :)

we all might be very happy but trust me guys, we are always stressed and tired, we have a lot of paper works and i know its for our own good and learning. universities here are offering a different approach of teaching their students...but of course we had and will be having a lot of fun...we are all excited for the clinical placements...

deakins next intake might be over for you guys, but try the next intake..lecturers and demonstrators at deakin are all approachable and nice...
