New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hello there! I'm not sure about the BP on April. The application is more or less the same like in the other states. Fill up & send your application form along with requirements to NBV and wait for the assessment letter. Once you get an assessment letter telling you to take the bridging course, you can now send your application to the bridging course provider. This is my timeline more or less:

September: Sent my application to NBV.

Somewhere between November to December: Received the NBV assessment letter. After receiving it I sent out applications to the bridging course providers.

December: Received offer letter from ETEA for May 2010 intake.

anyone who undergo immunization status check for BP? what should i do and where can i get MRSA and influenza vaccines here in the Philippines? i already have my letter of offer from CURTIN uni for sem2

Confimed. NBV is experiencing delay. [not shocking though] I was given a briefing on the dates thye received my documents. :( Hope they'll have my ielts result soon, because accdg. to fedex tracking it's been in their BIG mailroom since Jan 4. :( ...and I still don't have a case manager. Goodbye deakin... ( i hope they extend) :p But Im thankful at least my documents were received. :) ZZZZzzzzz....

Good for you, Newmac....just for reference, when did you send your application documents to NBV?

@ryan09... is etea a cricos provider? if you're applying for student visa, you need a cricos provide right? i know this is not ur case, but maybe you know the answer. :)

are there any implications? i thought i read somewhere... an issue between taking a cricos or non-cricos and student visa application.... (or this is just me imagining things again?)

how's etea? ... i really prefer a uni, i wanna feel like a student once again minus the monthly allowance. :(

@drednag the dates are indeed funny.

verification: received on december 15 2009. recognized by nbv system: december 17 2009

application: received on december 17, 2009. but recognized only on january 8, 2010:madface:

ielts: received on january 4, 2010. unrecognized til two days ago! :( hehehehe

ryan09 thank you for the added information i had a hard time searching for that in their website actually u saved my time ha ha ha! :D and was wondering why there is no may 2010 schedule? imsodizzy said her bp intake is may 2010. im quite confused.

imsodizzy thank you for answering my questions. indeed this forum is helping me a lot and realize i dont need an agency anymore to guide me thoroughly. by the way, are you a 2nd courser ? with experience? thank you!

sorry to be pestering you with my questions:uhoh3:, how did you find out when it was "recognized by nbv"? did they email you or did you call them?

@drednag its fine. :)

i called them twice to validate what the "first guy" said. and it was correct.

@ drednag: no word yet from NBV too here, bro, not even a response to my previous enquiry email stressing them the details of the courier's (FedEx's) delivery of my application packet and its "supposed" receipt by the person in their office. As what was mentioned here, if we have all the details of the delivery and receipt and the name of the person who acknowledged receipt of our parcels, then that should somehow ease our angst.

We have the same timeline, bro as well as with NewMac I think. NBV also told me via email correspondence that they have received my verification on 17 December 2009 whereas in fact tracking record shows it was received on the 16th according to PRC so I am now optimistically assuming that if the Board has already acknowledged receipt of NewMac's application on 8 January 2010, ours should also have been acknowledged on or somewhat near that date (if our tracking report states that it was delivered and signed for last 15-16 December 2009). We can attempt to give them a ring, however, making an overseas call to a virtual switchboard with an infinite queue is not really promising considering the cost, too. :uhoh3:

Like you, it has been a month now for me since I lodged my application and I think we have to anticipate that so-called "delay" considering the 2-week backlog from the holiday and I know it's starting to get into our nerves and our psyche. Yes, it does "bite", to say the least, but that's how it is, I guess, and that's reality. All we can continue doing is to keep our optimism intact, think of other ways to prepare for the next step of the process - study the BP providers and its course structures, how to apply for it, how to go about it, including contingency plans should we not make it to our school of choice's deadline (heaven forbid!) and finally to just lay everything to the Higher Being, to trust and have faith in Him. :up::up:

By the way, it says here I'm not entitled yet to send/reply to PMs as I am still technically "new" to the site so I hope this would suffice for the moment. Let's keep our guards to whatever developments in our application, shall we?

I got my swine flu vaccine here in Oz and it was the Uni that facilitated it for us. No charge if you have the OSHC, (overseas students health coverage). it's kinda hard to get a flu vaccine, late in the year or early in the year because they change it annually. the other vaccines i got from the Philippines, mostly the pediatricians facilitate it. i got a certification from them as well and a baby book.
