New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

^^

true...and you should be corrected as well...

as you have been very discouraging...

lets take your previous post as an example...can you give us concrete proof that CAS is really that easy as you say...

regarding the economy thing, you are not the miniser of finance nor the minister of health to tell us that the economy could be the hindrance why it is hard to find a job. you are not the ministero f health to tell us that it will be hard for the overseas nures to penetrate australia because of the reason that youve laid out...SO YOU ARE HAVING MISCONCEPTIONS AND INCORRECT MISLEADING INAPPROPRATE INFORMATIONS!!!

and again generalization isnt good...and dont cleanse yourself as you yoursef needs some orientation of what australia is and whats happening, youve been here for montths only right? have a thorough research dear and you will know...and try to stand by corrected.

PS: interest rate in australa is sowly going higher indication that the economy is stable. in the next few months it wll rise again. do you think australia really dont need nurses? do you think it will be hard to find a job? if i may ask you how many hospitals are there in melbourne and in victoria as a whole? do you think that the on going construction and expansion of some of the hospitals dont require additional man power? how come it will be hard to find job? and do you agree that people who will have a hard time finding jobs are the ones discouraged by some discouraging and misleading people in here?

oh my God, i love this discussion...keep it coming as im in the mood...;)

haha:D I'll keep my fingers crossed and I wouldn't even dare attempt to correct you again as everything you say is correct. Kudos.:smokin:

thanks Kit25, it's only been a month though since i submitted my application, guess i'm just too excited :D.. so i'l wait for another 1-2 months?

I think so. Just make sure that you have submitted all the documents including NBI clearance and IELTS. There is a checklist in the QNC website to guide you. Good luck.

hey, ryan! im new here!tnx for all the info and positive outlook!

im plannin to apply for the BP course of deakin june intake, heard ur doin urs there., how is it so far? im choosin between la trobe & deakin.

d'ya have any idea what may happen if youre doin your bp on/during june/july intake at any uni with the commencement of the newly formed nursing & midwifery board of australia? any news there on how rules may change?

hi,

yes ill be doing my BP in january at deakin uni....

i cant really answer your latter question as the NBV cant give me a concrete answer as well when i raised the same question of yours to them...they also told me that overseas nurses who were given eligibility to do the BP will still be accepted for a registration after completing the course....i hope nothing will change...:)

i was able to talk to the head of PMC education. and he told me there would be no changes...i hope he is correct...

thanks, cath!

I am going to apply in NBV. So, maybe it is needed.

I'll just prepre it ahead. What's news agent? =D

I suggest you bring that to a Notary Public not to the police station. In the Philippines, cops are not authorized to sign declarations unlike in Au. Good luck.

haha:D I'll keep my fingers crossed and I wouldn't even dare attempt to correct you again as everything you say is correct. Kudos.:smokin:

keep your toes crossed as well, you would look great...

Hello Antigone,

Your application including your English proficiency examination will be assessed by QNC. CAS will not contact your for part A. The Nursing Board will inform you if you will be referred to CAS for assessment. An application packet will be sent to you by the Board and you will have to send this to CAS. This will not take long 2-3 mos as the most for complete application. Have you submitted your NBI? I recommend that you do not give up your work especially if you are in acute care. It will be an advantage for you having experience when applying for a job in Australia. Hope this helps.

No, I haven't. I wasn't asked for the NBI. Do I need to send it at this stage of application? Thanks for your help. :)

For those who took the CAS Part A, how many months should I allot for preparation? I'm working but it's a very benign work. Say how many hours/day and how many months? Thank you. :)

No, I haven't. I wasn't asked for the NBI. Do I need to send it at this stage of application? Thanks for your help. :)

Don't wait for them to tell you. Request for IELTS to be sent directly to QNC. You can use ordinary mail I think you have to pay 300 for that or opt for DHL.

Send a certified NBI clearance directly to the Council. There has been changes recently and I think all international applicants are required to submit a penal clearance. You can review within your spare time. 2-3 mos. would be enough. All the best.

^I had my IELTS sent directly. It should be there within the week. So 2-3 months while working would be enough? Thanks. I'm so excited :)

hi kit25, if you dont mind me asking.. which state are you in Australia? thanks for all the shared info..

^I had my IELTS sent directly. It should be there within the week. So 2-3 months while working would be enough? Thanks. I'm so excited :)

As long as your application is complete it would not take long. The most would be 3 months. Are you a second courser? I heard some stories about second courses assessed as ENs or EENs having finish their degree in 2 years time?

^I'm a third courser. EN is enrolled nurse? What are EENs?
