New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Here's the mandatory criminal history check for all QNC applicants:

Overseas applicants are required to submit NBI clearance at the very start. Hope this helps.

^I'm a third courser. EN is enrolled nurse? What are EENs?

Endorsed Enrolled Nurse. In Victoria it is called Division 2 medication qualified. Nurses assessed as such are qualified for 457 visa application with a sponsor but cannot proceed to permanent residency unless they upgrade in Australia. However, you cannot upgrade while on a 457 visa as you should be working full time, a requirement of your visa.

hi kit25, if you dont mind me asking.. which state are you in Australia? thanks for all the shared info..

I had my registration in Qld and endorsed it through mutual recognition to another state as I am having some difficulty landing a job recently.

love this post! thanks for the encouragement kit25 :):yeah:

Thanks, stef. That's a word from the previous Program Manager but everything has change now as they have a new Program Manager. I would encourage applicants to take the clinical component of CAS instead of the Part B as there is so much to learn in the bedside.

ahoo! this is really getting hot!

may i ask something? esp those in VIC

after doing the BP course on student visa. The next step is to get a job/employer/sponsor, right? (a stage that may be hard for others but not for some, i suppose)

and the student visa will then be converted to residence permit, right? is this the procedure?

You need a sponsor to nominate your for 457 (long stay visa). This would take 2 weeks-3 months to complete. Without a sponsor you, you cannot commence work. ENS would take longer but suitable for experienced RNs with at least 3 years experience. For information about immigration please check www.immi.gov.au

I'm worried about the job market in QLD. How is it? Would it be probable for overseas nurses to land a job there at this time?

Hi! im really interested in applying to NZ by march 2010. I have talked to one of the licensed immigration advisers by IAA, and was told that I should have at least 600 hours of post grad experience before I can apply to NZNC. Then continue working on getting experiences, since it would take some months before I can get to NZ, by then hopefully i have acquired one year experience or more. I have few thoughts in mind please help...

1. Should I go for a consultant agent, which I think is really reliable since its registered and licensed by IAA, PNZBC and UNITEC? I just want assurance that I would get a job in NZ right after CAP.

2. I know nurses arrive in NZ on a tourist visa, how many months are tourists legal to stay in NZ? I mean, if CAP lasts for 6-12 weeks then weeks again to get their work permit, would there be ample time to fix everything before their visa expires? or extension may be necessary?

3. Is it easy to find a nursing job in NZ, whether be it in a hospital or care home?

Please share ur bright ideas. thank you! smile.png

Thanks, stef. That's a word from the previous Program Manager but everything has change now as they have a new Program Manager. I would encourage applicants to take the clinical component of CAS instead of the Part B as there is so much to learn in the bedside.

Actually, the new program manager also said the same thing to me... "they are there to help us get registered not fail us"...

the staff of CAS are friendly and helpful... don't hesitate to approach them.

good luck to all those who are about to take test A.
