New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

waah..so you mean, i need the pre visa assessment coz i'm currently residing here in the middle east? i just really wanted to go home to the phils. first before going to australia..coz havent been able see my family and bf..and from what i understand..it'll take a month for the pre visa assessment and a month for the visa proper..if that's the case..then..i dont have any choice but to go straight to australia.... anyways, yeah..we'll see each other there..(fingers crossed)..soooo jealous!

i got my ecoe today and the o.r. of my payment. i will be submitting my student visa application by next week. i'm just gathering all the other documents that they need and organize it so it is easier. just keep going :) i'm praying everything will be smooth from here on so i can purchase my ticket as soon as i receive the visa. the student visa takes 4 weeks to process from here. i hope it can be sooner :) the ticket to aus is getting expensive as january draws near. the earlier the better.

My letter says:

"Please provide evidence of successful completion of an english language test by december 2009. if QNC does not receive and english test result by december 09 it will be taken that you do not wish to continue. "

Does this mean anytime within December 09 or by December 01, 2009?

I just got my letter, although it arrived at the post office on September 30, 2009.

It also says I should "demonstrate nursing competence through an approved process, to comply with section 54(4) of the Nursing Act 1992."

Is this the Part B? The one that we will take in QLD?

Thanks!

Its both part A and B the process includes both, If you're done with A that is then do B. A first before B.

i'll be sending some additional documents and it clearly states they need to receive it before january 03 .just to be sure, better email them and ask it directly.

hi Armi! how much did you pay for Curtin? good luck!!

Hey Ziggldy!! well i actually got accepted in the 1 year nursing conversion program but since I have the letter from the Board, I can take the bridging program which will last for 1 sem. I had to pay half of the 1 year tuition which is around 11k to get my COE which is a requirement for my student visa.. :)

it is nice actually especially if you have the money ryan09. i am just puzzled regarding armiRN's reply of 11k for the half payment of tuition because if this is the case, then I'll proceed with this pathway.

as per armiRN'ss post. you will only be required to do the BP for half a semester and just pay half of the tuition fee if you have a letter from the board of nursing in WA...but if you dont have then you will do the BP for a year and pay the tuition fee in full..

same thing applies in Victoria, La Trobe is offering a course of one year Master in Nursing, after graduating from this program you will then be eligible to apply for registration as a Div.1 nurse in victoria...however, this will cost you more or less $20k (if my memory serves me right)..

half a semester? i see. might as well inquire from Curtin. thank you for enlightening me

Cheers!

@ryan how does the national registration affect NBV ? since for QLD the CAS gets affected and hence the deadline for those taking the CAS. How about NBV? is there a deadline for bridging programs ..

hi nyk, im actually confused right now, well, i think somebody from here before mentioned that the nbv will only be accepting applications until december this year...

with regards to the bridging program, i have rang the nbv many times and clarified things up, as i am originally planning to do the BP in may or june but with the coming of the national registration in july next year (tentative) im afraid they wont recognise my training if my training will end sometime after the national registration will take effect. i have asked them about this and they cant give me a specific answer, they only told me that there is no rules/policies yet formulated by the national board regarding my concern so i decided to just do the bp and finish it as early as i could cos you know never know what will happen next...
