New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi, I am new here and I would appreciate your input. I am submitting my application for assessment to take the CAS to the QNC next week. I read from the thread here that QNC might be closing on the CAS by December 31, 2009... Am I too late? Should I still submit? I still have to take the IELTS in December.

hi everyone!

i'd like to thank all the the people in this forum for sharing their time in answering our queries, i found it very helpful. i'm planning to study in la trobe by next year. anybody here going in that school? i'm still at lost on how im about to go in my applications and what course should i take. i'm studying for my master's degree in nursing at this time, any idea if it will be an added benefit for me? my major is nursing service administration.

hi , im joining the january 2010 intake in la trobe. the next intake is june 2010 as the january classes are now closed. take the bridge program iron as soon as you receive a go signal from the nbv.

i'm not sure if it is confirmed but is a possibility because australia is moving toward national registration by july 2010 which means they will only have 1 regulating body instead of per state. i know that nbv would only process applications within the year but i'm not sure about qnc. after dec 2009, i think nbv will only process applications they received in 2009 especially that they also resigned as a member of the anmc. i'm really not sure if i have the right understanding.

i suggest you send email to qnc to ask about this.

on your ielts, you can still take the test since it is good for 2 years--- so that anytime, you are ready to pass requirements. i'm sure that it is still a requirement even with the new registration guidelines.

hi, chabeli, thanks for the info.

can we submit our application to qnc and nbv without submitting the ielts yet? i have completed all the documents needed, except for the ielts (i got 6.5 in writing and listening the last time so i have to retake). i will retake the ielts on december 12... is it possible for me to submit the other documents first?

For qnc,as of July 2009,You need the required IELTS score before your application will progressed as stated on their new english language proficiency requirements.

Goodluck.

Oh if resident, you'd need to apply through UAC if I'm not mistaken. That's a different process because u'll be competing for a place in the uni together with all HS grads in that specific state too.

goodluck dear~

AELITH

i'll just ask what UAC means?

thanks

jay, my first question is when will be your visa expire? if it has an expiry date better for you to obtain a new one...it will be easier now cos you are here in australia. of course everyone is welcome to submit their documents and have it assessed by the NBV..:)

as far as i know, swan hill is a regional place? im not really familliar about the swan hill area, but if its a sub urb of melbourne then i think it woud be fine as there are a lot of transportation available throughout the melbourne metro and nearby areas...

yes, even if you are a holder of permanent residency visa or even if you are an australian citizen, if you are educated overseas and would seek registration in victoria or anywhere in australia you are still in the international trained nurse category..however, the good news is, if you are a PR or citizen, you can apply for a scholarship of $2000 and a tuition fee loan from the government, meaning you will be able to do the BP without any cost at all..:)
