New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

if it's just a matter of a few days, i think they can figure out... or if you want you can send an amended application form with the correct details.

Hi Chabeli!

I was just wondering if you think they will hold it against me? they might cancel my application. Should i send a affidavit of correction with a letter of explanation?

thanks thanks

Hi chabs, thanks for the quick reply. It's a great favor for me. I wish you all the best in life. God bless you always.

Try sending then an email first about your inquiry. Tell them that the inclusive dates of your employment had a slight mistake. But kasi, they normally just look at the month and year and not really the date. So ask them nalang if you need to send a corrected one. Tell them that the discrepancy was just with the day and not the month. try to be specific with your inquiry like tell them, instead of october 1, i wrote October 10.

Good day to all! I already passed my applications to latrobe..the thing is I dont know if they have already received it..I was sending them emails..they were replying but not directly answering my questions..Anyways I want to ask how long will it take to process the student visa there in the philippines..coz I'm based in the middle east working for almost 2 years now. Thanx!

for level 2 assessment which is our assessment level for non-award, student visa takes up to 4 weeks. Did you email La Trobe [email protected] .. that's their email for international student applicants.

Kindly submit it soon because they have already closed enrollment for their IRON as per Ryan09. It is strange that they do not respond, because for my case they respond within 2 hrs.

Latrobe does reply to my emails..the thing is they send me like newsletters and autoreplies..not directly answering my questions. I have already sent my application but I'm not sure if they got it coz they didnt give me any confirmation yet. Saaddd.

they might not accept your enrolment for the january intake as it was closed last tuesday...they might be able to admit you in their june intake....

if you cant contact them through email, try to ring them, i know its not the cheapest way but it will be worth it...:)

good luck...

i'm very new here at allnurses.. while im back reading, i saw a lot of useful posts on regarding how a newly grad filipino nurse wanting to work in australia and nz.. but im quite confused of the terms and abbrev.. you used here.

like BP, CAS, EN, EEN, Div 1, Div 2.. etc.

MY STATUS:

** im a newly grad filipino nurse. graduate of april 2009

** i have passed the June 2009 NLE here in phils.

** i have NO working experience. NO volunteer experience.

because im quite having trouble in finding a job as a nurse here in manila.. almost all hospitals are closed for

recruitment. and if there is a hospital that is open. tremendous amount of applicants are rushing in. last time i

had applied.. we, 600 applicants, took the entrance exam for the hospital. and sad to say only 30-40 will be

hired. :C very low chance on passing.. yet i havent said about the interview screens for that.

** i haven't taken my IELTS

** i want to work in preferrably in Australia as a nurse.. what will be better? RN/EN/EEN.. for me as a fresh board passer with no EXP?

** i had orientations of these study and work programs abroad. namely australia, canada, UK. but they seemed to

offer caregiver courses.. where in, you will pay about 500K for every year of the course. lodging, food and expenses not shouldered. you can work part time for 20hours as a caregiver, while you study courses like:

"Certificate III in Community Services Work", or

"Certificate IV in Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 nursing)", or other courses..

I am looking for your suggestions on how will i become a registered nurse in australia regarding my status

of being a Fresh board passer without any experience.

i just heard about these bridging programs here.. is there a step by step process? i quite finding difficulty backreading.

I am hoping for your replies.. Thanks!

i suggest you read the website of the nursing council particularly Queensland/QNC, NBV/Victoria, Western Australia, New Southwales...

to become a registered nurse, you must undergo 2 months of "bridging" or training program in Australia and must passed it to be given a license.. then you are now RN.. or you may opt to choose the QNC way of becoming an RN.. therefore you must read their website so that you can have a background and choose which will fit for you..

afterwhich you can seek queries and clarifications from other members of this thread..

good luck to your endeavour and welcom to our world of the unemployed(nurses like me)...:jester:

after a long time... so many messages to read and be up to date with the thread... COngratulations to all who passed the ielts and have received their assessment.

For those who were asked police clearance like me... it takes bout 3 months for you to get the final assessment... I believe that the regular length of approval in QLD is between 3-4 months.

Hi dolcevitran! So you've received your final assessment? How long exactly before you received it? Sorry for going over and over about this guys, but waiting for my assessment is really killing me now. I have sent them an email sometime last week and they were really kind enough to reply but all they said was up till now no assessment has been sent to me yet and that I just have to wait for it. :o

Yes, congratulations again to those who passed their IELTS already and to those who are about to take it sometime soon, you can do it guys! Just do your best and lift up to God all the rest! :yeah:

i think i had the longest wait ever.... i submitted my application last december without IELTS yet but since it is Christmas season and with the long vacations, it got delayed.

January i received a letter stating i need to submit police clearance which i did promptly, i submitted my NBI clearance (and took my IELTS February) so from January i waited for 3 months.

On April, instead of an approved letter, i recieved another letter stating that i need additional requirement which means a clear breakdown of my theoreticals and clinicals and course descriptions and also a letter stating that my first course was credited to my nursing degree.

I received my approval last week of June or 1st week of JUly not so sure really.

But for the others i know who got the approval the same time i did, they just submitted February.

I guess its better to just wait... they will give you a response within 3-4 months. Maybe if its more than that then that is when you start to worry.

FOr now i guess the best thing to do it read about Australia... the anmc and qnc website is the best place to start... so when you get your approval you can schedule your exam right away.

I hope this helped. God bless everyone.

Thank you dolceviteran! Yes, I guess I have no choice but to wait for it. Huhuhu... I pray that its a positive assessment. Anyway, thanks again! Yes your waiting time was definitely longer but you still got it. That's what's important, right? :nuke:

Patience really is a virtue.... :wink2:
