New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi everyone, i was able to received my assessment from QNC last March...am I affected with the new IELTS band score requirement set by the QNC which is 7 in each 4 components? or 6.5 in listening and reading for me is alright?

any info will be highly appreciated...thanks

hi, anyone here who's preparing for the CAS test A? just want to ask some things...? thanks!

hi ryan09, i think you should email QNC, just type "Specific Enquiry:Overseas" as the subject so even if you received an automatic reply, they will still answer your question with separate email.

Hi Dudzy: I would just like to ask, while you are waiting for your 457 working visa, did you return to the Philippines or a are you waiting for it in Australia? If for example I choose to wait for the visa in Australia, how would I be able to undergo a new medical examination?

To Anyone who is do doing the CAS Education modules: how long did it take you to finish one module? Were the questions difficult?

Thanks!

I am here in Australia waiting for my 457 visa... I didnt go back home anymore.. You will have your medical exam with HSA Group.. That is the accredited facility for immigration medical exams.. You will be instructed by your case officer about that once your application will be lodged.

Hi Dudzy. Just want to ask you about 456 visa. Since you had the 456, which allows you to stay for 12 weeks just in time you finish your course, did you apply for extension or you started looking for an RN job before your 456 expired? Also, is it too hard to look for RN jobs in Victoria?

Thanks.

I applied and submitted my CV to hospitals and also online job postings before my visa expired.. I did not apply for an extension because I already had an employer who sponsored me for my 457 visa and during that time my 456 was still valid 10 days before expiring when I lodged my 457 visa.. But if worst comes to worst that you dont have an employer yet, you can extend your stay by applying for further stay onshore 676 visa that is tourist visa.. You can extend as long as there is no 'NO FURTHER STAY' condition on your 456 visa.

Hi Ynez, I got my positive assessment from QNC last July. But i need to pass my IELTS in order for me to sit for the CAS exam. I just inquired on the cost of the health assessment to prepare my budget for the whole process. I just took my IELTS last week, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Goodluck to everyone :wink2:

ok.. i hope you pass the ielts.. i just lodged my application 2 weeks ago. took the ielts already last june and passed it..so it took 8 months to process your application.. isn't that too long? were there any problems with your documents that it took that long??? thank you for your reply..

hi nykhouston2003.. i can't pm you yet.. yes im a second courser.. just lodged my application 2 weeks ago... i hope there'd be no problem with my application and i hope you get your positive assessment soon...

this post gave me an answer to my long lost question :) I'm about to take the bridging course in NSW most likely next year and Im planning to apply for the 456 visa. I have an employer already there so most likely when should I inform my employer- after my bridging course, during or prior so they can help me and lodge my 457 visa?

So its possible that I wont go home anymore right after my bridging course? That's what Im hoping for coz the plane fare is expensive goin back and forth hehe and it will take sometime again to go back coz of the paper works and other things..

So what do you suggest on when to inform my employer, I dont want to go back to Phils anymore e :)

Do you already have an offer of employment and employment contract? I think it is best to inform them that you have enrolled for the bridging course. Also inform them when are you commencing, graduating and when will you be expecting your registration. You also have to inform them the status of your visa, when it is expiring so that they will also lodge the nomination and sponsorship for you. You need that before you can apply for the 457 visa. You apply onshore for the 457 visa. You don't have to go home.

In addition to that, granting that you have been sponsored and you have lodged your 457 visa by that time, your 457 visa will not be granted without your registration. You have to work things out between your employer, your course provider to submit the result of the bridging course completion (competent!), and the nursing board for your registration to be issued. With that completed and your medical exam, your 457 will be on its way.

hi dudzy, may i know which state are you registered? is its NBV or QNC? thanks a lot! :)

im registered here in victoria..
