New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

hi jetsy24...I will be enrolling also in the universities in Melbourne, I also have my letter from NBV to do BP after I passed IELTS. Can you give me an idea of how much a student can earn in that 20 hours of part time job...just an estimate, please PM me.

hi Aelith, do you have an idea re this...i submitted last week my student visa application...and i know it will take 1-3 months processing, and my intake will be on November, can i apply for another visa while my student visa is still on process? Lets say i apply for a 456 visa this August to do BP on Sept-Oct, cause 456 only takes few days to process...any idea? thanks

hi does anyone here have an idea if IV therapy certificate (done in the phils) is essential if you are to work as a nurse in oz?

Hi Aelith,

Since reading this thread, i think you're one of the best persons here that has the relevant infos for everything. I've read fr your previous posts that you personally prefer to enroll a 2 yr nsg degree prior to registration. I've been thinking alot also of doing the same but I guess it's too way high expensive for me. Can you pls suggest me some courses that would be affordable or cheap enough at the same time will allow me some benefits/ award after finishing it? I have a friend in Brisbane, any school fr there? How mch is the cheapest tuition that i can get? By the way, I've been inactive from nursing for 10 years over now (personal reasons):grn:.Will they still accept me? (My license is always up to date, but my brain I think is not anymore:sleep:)In my case, what do you think would be best for me to do first? For the past 10 yrs. mostly my job is singing w/ my hubby and bros and a little partime jobs in private home nursing (occasioanally).Music is my passion really. But w/ the present economic turndown, i'm looking for some other options and alternatives esp for the sake of my 2 kids. Thanks alot for any bright ideas. You're such a big help in this thread:up:.

hello joy, i send NBV my last document (which is my cert of registration from PRC) last June 15 and they received it June 22. I got ther letter yesterday (july 20)...since my IELTS didnt qualify (I got 6.5 in Writing) I will study there in November this year and from there, I would take IELTS again...and do BP. I'm choosing between Deakin and Ramsay Healthcare because of cheap fee, maybe I'll finally decide when Im there...Im just hoping that my student visa will be approved, as I knew someone denied by the embassy:cry:....also RN like us...:nurse:

janmusic i think i can't pm you yet.... still havent got 15 posts.

Hi Farah. I don't have a job yet. But from what I gather, min wage is $10 for students... It goes up depending on what kind of work you are in. I know someone doing a cookery course, she earns $15 a week. =)

When did you lodge your application. I am still waiting for the NBV's letter. I submitted mine last June.

Hi Jetsy, I sent my Application Form last May 15, and they replied after 3 weeks, asking for other docs. The last time I sent (PRC Cert.) July 15, they received it July 22, then I receive my letter to do a BP yesterday (July 20)....thats the flow...

you mean $15 an hour? well....I have to work hard. Where are you in Melbourne?

Hi to all RN's planning to take BP in Victoria....hope to see you soon, or at least bump with you in the hospital...just be patient, I know NBV is doing the best they could to speed up the processing, as we all know, they have until June 30, 2010 only...and then, we don't know the new rules of the national registration body....im just confused, in the letter they said i have until 2 years to comply with IELTS and BP, by that time, they are not anymore the registration authority...how is that? Can someone share their knowledge on these matter?

Thanks...
