New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Yeah Farah, you can do it!!! :-)

Hi guys! Sorry I've been busy yesterday; spent the whole day at our municipal hall for my NBI, police clearance, community tax certificate, and birth certificates of my hubby and son. Like hitting a few birds in one stone hehehe. Man it was so hot and humid yesterday, with all those other people in queue! But I just said to myself hopefully that would be the last time and that next year will be a whole lot different scenario already hehehe... Anyway, I submitted both NBI and Police clearance for abroad to QNC.

So, guys I have a question-- If QNC sent you the acknowledgement letter, does it mean that they already have received the verification from PRC aside from your other documents or we have no way of knowing unless we receive the ASSESSMENT letter? Coz it just got me thinking... what if after all of our hardships with regards to compiling required documents, then after about three months we'll just find out that the PRC verification form still hasn't reached them. Or if somebody from QNC misplaces the verification form and does not attach it with the documents that we have submitted? So we just really have to wait? Or will they notify you before the 3 months if they haven't received the verification from PRC? Waiting, waiting waiting... Pure agony.... :o

Hi Aelith....I just passed the NLE held last Nov.2008. I decided to take the 1 yr. Conversion program for registered nurses in Curtin University of Technology (Bentley Campus) and just waiting for the student's visa to be released hopefully next week. I would just like to know if you have any idea how easy/hard to get a sponsor after finishing Conversion Program? I just realized that since it's just a 1 yr. program, I won't be able to apply for Skilled Graduate (temporary) visa. I'm kinda worried that after the program, I'd be asked to return home. Would u know any other options? Thank you

Hello Farah and welcome to the thread :)

I understand how you feel and hope that you'll find the courage to give it another try. Studying in Australia is a bit on the expensive side especially if you are only going to study for 1 year which gives you the same result with that of a bridging program, which is the 457 working visa. I personally don't recommend the 1 year program unless you really feel that, that is the only option you feel comfortable with because it'll only make you pay more for the same effect. Two years of study has more benefits, however, it is also more expensive.

6.5 is just a scratch away from 7.0 ;) I believe you can make it to 7.0. If you are really thinking of studying, the intake will not be until Feb of 2010 so why not make use of the time before that and practice as much as you can then re-take your IELTS. Don't let your fears hold you back, have a little faith.

Goodluck dear~ :) AJA! :D

Thanks Aelith, you're definetely right, I thought about it too.:up: Coz I'm also derperate like farah:D

Actually that's why I don't usually recommend the 1 year program because you have to find a sponsor after. However, just have a positive attitude and hope that within that 1 year you'll be able to find a sponsor. Just like any other nurse here, you'll be competing with all other nurses who are trying to get a position in a hospital. I suggest that you do some part time work in a home care facility or hospital whilst studying. That way you'll be able to earn some closely related experience which will be good for your CV. If I am not mistaken you can also apply for their Graduate program for nurses (offered by selected hospitals) after you've finished your course. Your only problem is, you only have 2 months time before your student visa expires.

I really hope that everything will go well with you. Please update us. We'll pray for your success too :)

Yes Farah, you can do it. Me as well have the same situation , but I am still re taking the IELTS, again and again.

GOD BE WITH ALL OF US.

I thought it would be a good idea to put an Australian Migration Agents perspective:

re the QNC bridging course, there seems to be a number of pinoy/ pinay nurses brought up on conduct due to nursing practise when they secure employment/ sponsorship. If the case is proven against them they risk losing their Nursing Registration, which leads to them, loosing employment/ sponsorship ie/ leaving Australia.

We've seen a more positive outcomes form eitehr the Univertisty based (12moth programs) or programs that require the bridging course to be done entirely in Australia.

Either way , courses are very expensive for international nurses, so choose carefully,

Sad to say dear but you will have to wait for the assessment letter. Only then will you find out whether or not you've been successful with the application or if you are lacking any documents. :( The "verification" letter you are talking about, if I understood it correctly, is just to notify the applicant that QNC has received your application/documents and is now processing your application.

Thanks Aelith, so I just have to hop on the bandwagon with those excriciatingly waiting for their assessments... :(

welcome jet :D

congrats on finishing the whole thread :D it's quite long lol... but like what you said, it is all worth it ;)

regarding your question, my answer is yes - i have decided to pursue the mn program. you have two choices for the ielts problem; one, you can retake it and, two, you can apply for their english program which will start this oct. i suggest you apply early (as in now :D) if you want to avail of the october english program.

university of sydney recently made some changes in the nursing courses which will be offered starting a.y. 2010. they have not given a single offer letter yet because the courses will need new registration codes from cricos which are now being processed. the courses still have the same title and duration though.

if you need further information on how to apply, just message me here or via pm and i'll tell you everything i know. :)

but just to give you a heads up, prepare the following documents(certified copies) for the application:

1. tor (certified true copy or original is okay)

2. ielts result (to be sent by british council or idp - where you signed up for the exam)

3. diploma

4. completed application form (postgraduate coursework form for international students)

5. you must know what your gpa is ( i just calculated mine lol). there is a part in the application form where you'll need to state this.

6. idp told me to prepare also a certified copy of my rn license.

7. for application fee, you can either fill out the lower left portion of the application form, page 1, for the credit card details; or, you can go to anz bank and request a bank draft (aud currency).

8. you can include your rle hours if you want, but, i didn't provide that in my application.

Sis, does one have to pass as in BOTH the NBI clearance and Police clearance?
