Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
I thought it would be a good idea to put an Australian Migration Agents perspective:re the QNC bridging course, there seems to be a number of pinoy/ pinay nurses brought up on conduct due to nursing practise when they secure employment/ sponsorship. If the case is proven against them they risk losing their Nursing Registration, which leads to them, loosing employment/ sponsorship ie/ leaving Australia.
We've seen a more positive outcomes form eitehr the Univertisty based (12moth programs) or programs that require the bridging course to be done entirely in Australia.
Either way , courses are very expensive for international nurses, so choose carefully,
So does it mean that between CAS and regular BPs, the latter is better when it comes to finding employment after being registered? In what way/s? Any input on this? Thanks, thanks!
WOW! a million thanks to you sis Aelith..Yeah.. its really long thread, i got the energy to finish that because i dont want to miss any of your post.lol:lol2:

And btw.. do you know any university that accepts ielts with obs of 6.5 for masters degree??
Thanks alot!

The english program is done in Australia and provided by CET of University of Sydney. Your student visa will be a packaged visa - meaning the visa for the ELICOS plus the degree will be applied for in one shot. You will however, follow the requirements of the higher degree which is okay anyway. The English program will run for 10 weeks. The Program costs roughly 4k for the whole 10 weeks. The good thing about enrolling in such is that you will only be required to pay the english program fees instead of the normal 1 semester downpayment with the higher degree. This will save you some money for the meantime.
I did sign up with IDP here just because I'm not so confident to apply for the student visa here - the embassy is in a different country near us so that's why. As you may have already heard, IDP assists students even with the visa application.
Currently, there are only 2 Universities in Australia that offer the Masters degree - Usyd and Umelb. Both Universities require a 7.0 IELTS score in each band as a minimum. Other Universities in Australia that offer a normal/graduate entry BN program, however, do accept 6.5 band scores but have different minimum required scores for each band.
I'll PM you my contact detail :)
That sounds good.. but it will cost me alot for that english program. :crying2:I still have to discuss that matter with my sponsors.lol.. But if ever I want to avail that English program do you think I can make it on october with the whole processing with application with the university and with the visa?? :confused:Can I also work during the english program in Aus? ?
So when are you going to Australia?? :roll
Sis, does one have to pass as in BOTH the NBI clearance and Police clearance?
Hi angel! Nope, one poster said that NBI clearance will suffice but since I was there already, I thought might as well get and submit both since what they were specifically asking for is the police clearance. But since the police clearance is just from our local/municipal police authority, I included NBI (which in my understanding is like a nationwide or national clearance) .

Yes you can still make it since it is 3 months away anyway. Philippines is Assessment level 3 in Higher Degrees so, you will not need to go thru the lengthy process of those applying under VET courses which requires a pre-assessment. Visa can be done in about a month if everything is complete.
And since you are on a student's visa, you will be allowed to work during your english program and during the vacation after the english program and before the 1st semester of the degree starts (roughly 2-3 months of full time work besides the 20 hours per week whilst doing the english program ).
Actually that's why I don't usually recommend the 1 year program because you have to find a sponsor after. However, just have a positive attitude and hope that within that 1 year you'll be able to find a sponsor. Just like any other nurse here, you'll be competing with all other nurses who are trying to get a position in a hospital. I suggest that you do some part time work in a home care facility or hospital whilst studying. That way you'll be able to earn some closely related experience which will be good for your CV. If I am not mistaken you can also apply for their Graduate program for nurses (offered by selected hospitals) after you've finished your course. Your only problem is, you only have 2 months time before your student visa expires.I really hope that everything will go well with you. Please update us. We'll pray for your success too :)
Hi Aelith, really? in just two months i should be able to register in NMBWA and find a sponsor by then? I hope i made the right decision....Thanks for the info Aelith

:idea:Wow! eventhough i will spend extra 4000AUD for the english program i think i can have it back after working fulltime in 3months..
But what would be my job during my english program?? can I work in a hospital or even in a home care facility??:icon_roll

Aelith, I think Philippines is Assessment Level 2 if we will study Higher Education such as Bachelor, Associate Degrees, and yes you're right its just a 1 month processing...on the other hand, VET Courses is Assessment Level 3 which takes almost 2 months...and needs a show money good for 3 years.
