New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi Cioman,

Actually, the hospital has a library which we can use in case we were given projects like nursing care plan, scope of practice and pharmacology presentation. We are free to borrow books and use the computer in the library. One can also print his report as there is an available printer.

Personally, I bought one as my DELL laptop is quite heavy (6.6lbs) so I decided to leave it in Davao. I needed a laptop because I can communicate with my family through this. It is worth buying one as it can be very lonely here and the price is reasonable. You can get a good unit for a thousand or less AUD and this has good specs already. But if you don't like to spend, you can carry your laptop from the Phils. Some of my filipino classmates did that.

Good luck and God bless.

Maggie

Hi nykhouston2003,

When did you pass the board exams. I passed it last year, the result came April 2008. I got the Certificate just this month Feb 2009. Maybe if you passed just same as my time maybe you can get the certificate now. Check again at the PRC. If it is still not available, ask them for any alternative that will show that you are a Registered Nurse. I did it that way, and it was what I sent to the Nursing Board in Australia. Be insistent about it. They will issue you some kind of certification. See to it that there is a letterhead and they will ask from you about 75 pesos for payment (it comes with a documentary stamp tho'), that was what I paid.

Hope this will help.

Hi nursemavi,

When you applied for visa to do the BP, you applied for 456, right? What were the requirements that you submitted to the embassy? And how about financial support? How much is the required amount. Should it be in your name or anybody can just sponsor you. For me, the money is with my Mom. Is it alright? Show money is also needed? How long will it take for the visa to be released.

Hope you can inform me on the steps you did. Every little detail that I should be aware of. If you won't mind.

Big Thanks to you MAAM ( hi hi)

GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS.

I would just like to ask who went to australia on 456 visa? Correct me if I'm wrong, this visa is good only for 3 months, right? In case I pass the PPOQN course which is done for 11 weeks, is there no way that I can extend my stay there, like if I already have an employer there (God willing) before I finish the course, will the time be enough before the 456 visa expires? Please help me on this... anyone please...

Yes i think i am in the same batch with you, took it june 2008, passed april 2008. I called them yesterday and they said that it was still being made. My license number starts with 049..they said that licenses 047 are the ones available..is there any truth to that? What number does your license begin with patuman01? I have a certificate of board passing and board score already with me which i applied along with the license. Is this what you are pertaining to with regard to the certificate you were able to get?

Hi nyk,

Yes my license # starts with 047 (fortunately). BTW, I am a 'she" and applying at NMBWA. I am not trying for CAS (yet hi hi).

If you won't mind my asking, how about your IELTS? Do you have the needed score already? If NOT, then maybe better do the IELTS first while waiting for the Initial Registration Certificate. But if you already have the required IELTS score, then (if I were you) I will ask the PRC for some kind of Certification that you really have the Initial Registration Certificate. ( below is what they did for me):

If you have this na, have it copied and notarized, send the notarized copy to the Registering Body, attach some sort of cover letter asking for some consideration, if ever they could accept this certification. This might also preced your Verification of Initial Registration.

It is an extra effort and extra expense, but "if it will do the trick", then it's worth trying.:smokin:What do you think?

This just a suggestion. Your's is the final move. More power and concentration.. and action. ( he he).

Good luck sis.

Hi!

I have visa 456. I was required to completely fill out the application form which I downloaded from the Australian embassy website(Manila) and to attach a copy of my birth certificate and marriage contract and the offer letter from Hollywood Private Hospital. I also attached statements of deposit and bank certificates.

In my case, I did not have a sponsor but from what I heard from the others, they were sponsored by their parents. If your mother will allow her money to be placed under your name, that would be best plus her sponsorship. The amount of the show money is really relative. For it has not been clearly stated as to how much money you need to show them for a visa to be granted. A show money of 300K is a safe amount. You need to convince them that you can afford to live there for 3 months as this is the maximum length of period one can stay using a visa 456 but they can issue you a 1 yr visa 456 multiple entry with a maximum stay of 3 months per entry.

Good luck and God bless.

Cheers,

Maggie

Hi Maggie,

Thank you for the speedy and complete response. I can now start 'pasting all the pieces' in its right place.

I hope I will meet you someday there if everything goes right (God willing). I know you are busy, but you still got time to respond to inquiries here. I appreciate that. Thank you so much.:bow::bow:.

BTW, about the multiple entry, do I have to stipulate it in my visa application or by default they will issue us the multiple entry?

Thanks again and GOD BLESS YOU.

P.S. can you P.M. me the exact location where you are staying now, so that I can try to view it in oggle map street view. (hi hi I hope the moderator will permit this posting . I did not post the right add.)

Hi Patuman,

Am staying at Shenton Park. It takes me 13-15 minutes walk to reach the hospital from my place.

We will meet as I have met the people whom I just corresponded through the net before.

Just keep on hoping and working on the realization of your dream.

Cheers,

Maggie
