New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

" a letter from my heart" (part 2)

maria0707, maybe you can check again your contract with your agency, of how may years really you are contracted with them and how much. "read the small prints." are you sure of what they are telling you will really happen in actual situation, or there will be changes? are you ready for it. always remember when you are there already, you have lesser option or nothing at all, but to follow the course of events. is it fair? not to you but to others.

guys, imagine the freshmen now. in the future, what will they be confronted with. furthermore... imagine, consider the parents role. i don't have to spell it all. i belong to the "who haves" but my heart bleeds for the "who have nots".

god bless us all.:lvan:

p.s. this might be my last forum for maybe lot of you will hate me and maybe i will be banned by the administrator.

all i can say is that we all have sacrificed already to get our degree. more unreasonable sacrifice is an insult to us.

thanks for listening guys.

i dont think you should be banned for saying those things, i dont see any deragatory remarks (is my spelling right?)...

im here in davao too, and i did send a prc request for verification last nov. 2008, and yes my request is still pending..

indeed, it is painful to see that after graduating bsn, the suffering will still be starting, paying for license registration or exams like nclex, cgfns, etc. or bridging program.. and that our government really is not helping much, worst they became part of the problem..

i agree, if you research well, the more you will realize how much the agencies are hitting you, such that you may have a cardiac arrest when you realize it.. but anyway, reality bites.. we just have to do our thing, we members here just have to help whenever we could afford to help..

peace be on earth....:D:saint:

Wow, this is really informative. I was wondering why most people are just considering Queensland or Victoria? Are other state/territories more difficult to apply to? I was thinking of Perth. Although I haven't ever been to Australia and don't know anyone there, I have a friend's cousin who lives there so that's the closest to knowing someone there. Does the CAS replace the bridging program? I'm confused. And about the requirements, where do I get the Initial Registration Certificate? I'm assuming I should go to PRC for the current practicing certificate right? They would know what that it is hopefully. Can I register without any work experience because one of the requirements was a statement of service from most recent employer? I'm glad there's someone who knows so much about the Australian process. I hope you can help me too. I'm quite confused about it. Thank you.

Hello dear and welcome to this thread :)

I have seen several people tried to answer your queries. They have all been very helpful and informative.

Just to add some more information to what they have already stated or simply to emphasize...

Most here wanted to go to Queensland or Victoria for several reasons. One being the cost and ease of the application and the bridging program in Queensland and Melbourne as their preferred place to live hence, some want to register in Victoria.

Currently, all states in Australia have their own Regulating Authorities for Nurses. Each state has their set of requirements and their own bridging or competency programs. The prices also vary and could go anywhere from a thousand to more than 10k. However, if you have been reading all the previous posts in this thread, you may have noticed some posts regarding the National Registration Authority which would officially be effective on July 2010. This just means that the process, requirements and competency programs will most probably be uniform all throughout Australia.

The RN registration/license in Australia is transferable or can be endorsed - meaning you can register in any of the state and you can endorse it to a different state including NZ later on if you like.

There is one hospital in Perth that charges 880 AUD only for the bridging program. The only problem is they require at least a year experience.

CAS is one of the bridging programs in Australia which is specific to Queensland only. Currently, QNC still accepts foreign trained RNs who doesn't have any experience yet. Most probably though, they will advise you to take their CAS program.

If there is anything else you need, don't hesitate to post here. A lot of people will help you here. :)

hi branyan! i would like to ask how many months did you wait after you sent your correctly certified documents? thank you and God bless :)

1 month :wink2:

Thanks a lot Punjabi!

My next question to you and anyone who has an idea about this is:

After passing all the required modules, what is the next process? What are the requirements that I should be aware of at this moment to avoid any delays during the 2nd half of the process? I would likewise want to clarify the importance of Hepatitis B vaccination, Basic Life Support Training and IV therapy training. Are they all required during the 2nd half of the processing? What else should I comply in advance?

Thanks a lot for all the help!:dancgrp:

Hep B vaccination, BLS training are needed when you're going to have you're clinical placement, CAS would also require you to take a drug calculation exam, an exam for Occupational Health & Safety and a Blue Card application (check this site http://www.ccypcg.qld.gov.au/employment/), all of these requirements and exams will be explained when you get your pre-clinical pack/kit. To save time, I suggest to get your hep b vacc records, do the BLS training and documents needed for a blue card application while waiting for your pre-clinical kit.

document.png thanks for your infomation

nclex-rn has no bearing in qld application unless you are educated in the united states. i am a new york rn and i applied for qld registration. i am awaiting for my modules. goodluck.

this is correct, i'm also a vermont rn, and when i showed them my vermont license, they sent it back, they told me it's not needed :banghead: qnc will only consider nclex passer is he/she studied in the us or got their degree from the us.

For those paying using "bank draft", inquire with ANZ or Standard Chartered Bank if they could issue a bank draft in AUD.. as mentioned earlier, local banks will issue in USD only..

Fyi: the 1st portion of the legislation of "national registration" in Australia was already passed by the Queensland Parliament in November 2008... The 2nd portion of the law is aimed to be presented to the Queensland Parliament in July 2009...

The target date of national registration is (as mentioned in the previous pages) in July 2010.. But however datapwat, a state's parliament may pass transitory provisions/policies relative to the July 2010 deadline, like perhaps setting new qualifications consistent with the national registration..

The new board members of the national registration will start holding office in July 2009.. They are still hiring now for board members, wanna apply?

...time flies fast... the bomb is ticking... lets do it as soon as possible..

fyi2: watch out for the new US administration, the National Security Agency has opined that the shortage of nurses is considered a national security threat (e.g. in case of epidemics, needs more nurses, etc.).. in effect, it may further hastened the visa processing, which means i may become a sage in 2 years.. yes!!... that info is from a news article of Phil. Inquirer...

best wishes to all..

You could go to ANZ bank in GT Tower Makati and have a bank draft made, you'll have to pay a processing fee around P700. They will convert your peso in AUD and have a bank draft made. You should have a TIN and bring 2 valid IDs.

Hi guys, I'm planning on submitting my application soon. The following are the things I'm including in the envelope, hope im not missing anything..Please inform me if i am! :D

-completed application form

-birth certificate

-diploma

-PRC certificate

-TOR and RLE form (the checklist says the commencement and completion date of the course, name of course and details of course content, number of hours of theoretical instruction and clinical practice, signature and official stamp from the relevant course provider are needed. does the TOR/RLE tandem satisfy all these?)

-bank draft of 158AUD payable to Queensland Nursing Council

I'm still clueless about the statutory declaration. Exactly how do i do this part? Is there an extra form for this? Btw, i have no post-registration experience, is there any extra step to take/form to include in connection with this (aside from indicating this fact on item 6).

Also, for the language in which the course was conducted (item 7), I'll put English, right?

I've taken my IELTS already, is it ok for me to slip my certificate along with the other documents, or should i wait for QNC's cue to send it?

Lastly, all of these documents need to be photocopied and notarized with the details of the lawyer, yeah?

Sorry for the trivial questions guys, just wanna be sure coz I'd like my application to go as hassle-free as possible. My heartfelt gratitude to everyone!!!

You just have to sign in the Statutory Declaration and it must be witnessed by a notary public.

Just put newly graduate nurse if you've just graduated and no post-reg exp yet

Put English for the course conducted part

Don't put your IELTS result, QNC needs a result mailed by IELTS, they will not recognize your copy. Call your IELTS center and ask them to submit a report to QNC, you'll have to pay them for the courier.

You don't need to send your orig copies of TOR, RLE Passport etc. Certified true copies with correct notarization will suffice.

Hi, anyone done the clinicals here under 676 visa? I think this is the preferred visa option coming from CQU. Nursemavi went through 456 but that's in Hollywood, Perth. Anyone can shed a light on this?

CAS will ask you to apply for a 676 visa or a tourist visa, if you have all the required documents, it will only take 1 week to process a tourist visa or 676. It is also easier for a 676 visa cause less docs or "proof" is needed and I reckon CAS coordinates with Immigration when processing applicants for clinicals which makes application a breeze like what I've experienced.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. The letter that you received is a letter saying that you have to provide passing English proficiency examination and not an approval to take the CAS. You do not get an approval from the council without satisfying the English proficiency requirements. You can ring the council and they will have to give the same information to. AFter completing the English requirement, you will be referred to CAS through Central Queensland University. I am also on the process of QLD registration and I'm doing my module. Please provide accurate information for everybody.

Yup, you can't go to CAS without IELTS. I bet in the letter you have received you don't have the application form for the CAS program. Please verify your info before posting :saint:

Hi branyan! Where did you get your BLS? I am scouting for BLS in Au and I think it will cost $60 for the cheapest. I would want to do it here if the red cross is accredited.
