I find myself sooooo frustrated right now. All this hard work to get through school, graduate, pass boards, and now no one want to hire a new grad. Does anyone know if any hospitals hiring new grads right now?

If not, when do they usually start hiring them?

I'm just afraid at this rate that I'll have forgotten everything I've learned before I ever get my foot in the door. :uhoh21:

I share your concerns. I issued a similar post. Before I moved to Vegas, I saw several job vacancies with Valley Health as well as UMC. Now nothing. Then to top it off, I read an article on CNN.com that stated that Nevada comes in at #5 in the nation as one of the hardest hit states as it relates to unemployment: 12%!!! No wonder we are having a hard time. I even pursued school nursing. Received an immediate callback and was told that I could reapply when I had six months experience. I truly do not know what to do. I would even be willing to work part-time, float pool, anything. I have not received any callbacks. Sure I could wait until they post new grad positions again for next year, but what about the meantime? I will say that I am considering travel nursing on weekends as a last resort. All of this is simply put, extremely frustrating. It is good to know that I am not alone. Thanks

did you try north vista hospital on lake mead blvd?

The problem right now is that we aren't needed. With the economic downturn nurses who were not working have come back into the force as their partners have lost their jobs or seen their hours cut. Given how big an investment it is to train us it isn't a surprise that employers are going for experience now.

go on google and search for New Grad positions. I found quite a few. Of course some of them were in other states but I'm keeping an open mind.

after 3 months of job hunting i finally found a job. dont lose hope. just keep on trying. i only submitted online and i dont know anyone from that hospital.

I am sooo happy that someone has found a job! I was really getting discouraged when I received a letter from a hospital that said, "Congratulations on your graduation and the start of your new career as a Registered Nurse. You have chosen a great path. We are honored you have considered us as your employer of choice. However, at this time we are experiencing a large influx of new graduates within our community and have very limited openings for the newcomers. We hope you understand and would like to reassure you that your name and information is being retained for future reference." So, suffice it to say, I guess the environment does not consider unemployed applicants equally. I was very disappointed, as we all need to work. I have submitted apps to every acute care facility in Las Vegas. It seems that I just missed the boat on NEW GRAD opportunities. I will remain persistent though. Even If I have to wait until January when they repost the next round of NEW GRAD positions, I will stay on top of things. If anyone hears anything, by all means please drop a line. Thanks

thats the spirit! dont ever give up. i havent started on my second nursing job but im excited now. im a new grad as well, no bedside experience at alll. my first nursing job wasnt in a hospital. good thing after being persistent, checking any new new grad jobs online, calling the HR, i finally found a hospital job. and im even prouder coz i get in without networking. i mean i just applied online and got an interview!

I too am having great difficulty finding a job, and this problem is not unique to Las Vegas, NV. I left Des Moines Iowa because they weren't hiring new nurses either. I apply to at least 2-3 jobs per day and some days exceed 10-15. I have rewritten my resume over and over trying new strategies. No luck this far, for those of you that have found jobs how long of applying did it take you? And where did you find work?

Any advice or wisdom is welcome. I will keep trying in the mean time and remain hopeful.

I also promise to share any success or tips as I learn them.

Good luck to all,

thanks AdamLV,

again, nice to know that we are not alone. When I know something, I will be sure to drop a line. One thing that I know for sure is that Renown Hospital in Reno definitely has openings for new grads. Good Luck!

it's the lousy economy which, fortunately, is cyclical. right now every nurse who has a job is hanging on to it, and former part timers are upping their hours to full time as their spouses and partners get "downsized" out of jobs. it will turn around.

It "WILL" turn around?! I think we all know that it will turn around, but when? In months? In years? And what are we supposed to do in the mean time?

Its very aggravated to have a degree in what we were told is "recession proof" and in high demand. We are now strapped with excessive debt and a degree that isnt worth the paper its printed on. And everyone says hold on, it will get better?!

Easy said, especially for those who have jobs, and who are able to buy groceries, and who don't feel helpess and like a pathetic provider.

The problem is that its NOT turning around. ITS been going strong for over a year now, and many believe for a few more years. (Including white house econ advisors). So hold on?! To what? I have nothing left.
