Is there already a thread for RNs waiting to hear about awards from the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program?
When I search, I can only find previous year's threads.
I feel like I have spent the whole 2012 waiting for something! I have been under IRS audit since Feb (and I don't even make that much money!) and waiting to hear something good here. I certainty don't want to rush my life away but sure wish I could hear something positive for at least one of these issues!!!
Do they end up doing the credit check and EPL for everyone or just potential awardees? Anyone know from previous years? I am really trying not to stress about this, but I just don't know, and depending on how HRSA interprets the HPSA score (primary care vs mental health) I could be in Tier 1 with probably a halfway decent chance or Tier 3 with no chance. I think I am getting more stressed since my very first loan payments are due on July 15 and I really would like to not have that $700 to deal with every month.

They end up doing a credit check further along the review process. If your application is "Under review" simply means they are verifying all documents, employment, loans, etc. a credit check is part of that process. After verifying this information they assigning a funding preference according to the information you provided and their verification. It was strongly stated that every application will be reviewed thoroughly. We simply have to wait.

I think they check everyone's as part of the review process. For example, you could be the top person qualified for an award, but if you've defaulted on debt you are no longer eligible.
Payments do suck, but you'll get used to them (hopefully!). I started out paying $900 and I was still working as a CNA...tough times! Now my payments are down to $750 and I feel lucky lol. Sad isn't it?!
Well just something to make us feel better, even though we are stressing, and I do mean stressing, what if we were someone who didn't know about the loan forgiveness and didn't have an application in.........and now we found out about it!!! See, do you feel better already? I've been paying my student loan for a a little while, I just let them draft it out.....I pretend it is a payment on a new car that I don't have...lol Maybe, just maybe next month we will hear something.....Let me share some good news, a girl in my town just graduated from APN school and she had bought a lottery ticket and her husband had it in his wallet for about three months, I don't know if they forgot or what....but they won 250,000!!!! Now, on the downside, I bought a 20 tickets from the same store and didn't win a dollar. I'm just trying to think of good news to say????

So... I think I found the answer to my own question. It looks like the budget for NELRP starts on page 79. And from what I can see, the budget will be the same as last year (this award cycle is considered FY 2013). FY 2013 goes from October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013. This is why the awards are made by the end of September. Last year they made awards for $83 million (749 awards), versus about $93 million (919 awards) the year before.
If this is correct, then we (RN's) still have a shot! Aside from the changes made for allocations for NP's and faculty...
