Is there already a thread for RNs waiting to hear about awards from the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program?
When I search, I can only find previous year's threads.
I think my post got lost? Is this everyone's first time to apply? I just wonder if that makes a difference? It doesn't say anything about it but I just wondered? Well, another week is about over and we don't know anything.............Remember, everyone watch your emails about July 14th because that is when some people heard something...
This is my first time applying, and not sure I could handle the stress a second time around (of course I will, but I just don't want to have to). Just curious, have any of you considered how this may affect potential for raises at your facility? I am a nurse practitioner but accepted a pretty low starting wage because I was a new grad 6 months ago. I think I could have a tough time getting a decent raise anyway, even after some experience, but I am a little concerned that they will know I sort of need to stay there for at least 2 more years if I do get this and really not give me anything decent. Although, I guess I can look at it as a raise from the government which is still more money than I would have gotten even with a good raise in the next 2-3 years.
i know that i read somewhere that it should not be included in any type of monies received by employer or something like that. i am a np also, 2 years out and this will not affect my employment except the fact that i know if i don't stay that i would lose it, unless i went to a different facility that qualified and i'm not sure how that works. i have no intention of leaving. i know everyone works in different types of environments and has different negotiations but don't sell yourself short. there is a huge responsibility with being an np and having prescriptive authority, it is a 24/7 position or at least mine is. this is a different conversation but on yearly negotiation, you need to see what amount you bring in to a facility minus your expenses and show your worth. good luck to you!
This is also my first time applying. I knew about the program but wasn't eligible because I was working for a for-profit company. The thing I worry about if I have to apply again is the debt to income ratio. With large payments (measly compared to total debt) and small raises, I'm afraid that my ratio will be smaller, therefore reducing my chances even more.
Rachel, the award shouldn't affect your potential for raises. If it does, that is surely unethical. Similarly to winning the lottery, I would think it's none of their concern. And if you have to, you can always request a transfer to another eligible facility.
I applied last year. Understanding the process of how things work, once you get NELRP, other than verifying your employment every so-often the people you work for really don't have much to do with it. You should still get your well deserved raises. It is a government funded program, not a facility funded one. The fact that you should stay there while receiving funding should not affect what you earn at all.
Not my first time applying. It makes no difference. They don't follow people year to year based off of whether or not they have applied before. It's so frustrating that the program has changed in the last year basically meaning that if I had been where I am now last year I pretty much would have been guaranteed funding, but now that they are basing it off of HPSA my chances are pretty much nil
I also have applied at least 4 previous times. Skipped applying (too much work at that time) last year, but I work at a DSH and I only got far in 2010 when they actually checked my credit report. This was also for a 2nd round I'm guessing since it was in early September 2010. Unfortunately, I was only at about 95% ratio at that time. I have since obtained my BSN and slightly more debt but my ratio is now 124% so I'm hoping that my odds are better. The application was also much easier this year. Faxing in 30+ pages of documents was not fun (I procrastinated). Either way, I'm staying at my hospital since they contribute 3K to my loans each year, but this would be a nice bonus since I have a child starting college in another year that I will be paying for. BTW, I'm tier I, and I also have not have credit check or EPL yet, but my app was sent in very close to deadline. I do know an ex coworker that now works at a VA hospital that got this last year tho. I was beginning to think it was impossible to get in my area.
Well, I talked with HRSA yesterday. I was actually calling to get a local contact regarding my HPSA score, I had the name/number but lost it and while I was on the phone to a very nice lady, I asked if she knew anything about the NELRP and she said that I was in verification review. I didn't figure that they could/would tell me much about that but anyway she said we should hear by the end of August? I know in previous briefs some would say August, September, October, but I thought I would share that. I just wish I knew where I was at on the tier? I realize that I am repeating myself on here sometimes but it helps with my anxiety. I am Arkansas, NP, 141%, rural health clinic with no HPSA score:confused: I had a previous conversation with the representative that I should???might?? have a score around July 17th???:bowingpur He is sure that I have one, just doesn't know what it is........ The funny thing is that I know more about HPSA scores than I ever thought I would in this lifetime....I would love, love, love to get the funding this year and like everyone else said, it would just be a blessing!
