NELRP 2009

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I applied for the 2009 NELRP. I did not expect to hear from HRSA until September (IF I received an award). However, I was contacted by HRSA yesterday (June 15, 2009). They asked me to obtain pay off information for a few of my loans --- they had been unsuccessful with getting the info for those loans on their own, but did get the pay off amounts on other loans.

I asked the HRSA representative if this was a "good sign" and she responded that she could not confirm funding, but I am a "first funding preference" and "within range" (I think most who apply are "within range").

Questions: Has anyone else heard from HRSA this early?

Thanks!

Michele

SUMDAE~~ I feel your pain, but don't fret yet!! We were contacted last year, but did not receive an award. This whole process is crazy. I was contacted mid June this go 'round for payoff amounts, but haven't heard a single thing since then. Many others have been contacted to verify bank accounts etc., and even to sign contracts. I haven't heard a thing about either. It is very depressing. We all need to stay positive. Keep us all posted and good luck!!

No I did not get an additional email after the payoff one. I have tried to confirm that the fax was even recieved and have not recieved an email about that either :banghead:, so I'm thinking they are just so overwhelmed with all the applicants that they are behind, at least I hope that is what it is. I am still holding out hope and lots of prayers that I get a contract, oh the burdens this would lift...Good luck all!! :nurse:

I have spoken to a few nurses that were fortunate enough to get funded in the last couple of years. The process takes time, not only because of the amount of applicants but, incomplete and inaccurate information provided during the application process takes time to fix as well. The 2009 NELRP Application Bulletin, provided detailed information on what information was required for a "complete" application. Although, some required documents were not explained thoroughly enough, which then requires follow-up before moving on in the application review process. The nurses I spoke to did not receive phone calls or e-mails regarding information that should have been provided before the deadline. I have not received any correspondence regarding the information I personally provided in my application. I am not sure if I should worry.... because it doesn't sound like the contacts are related to the actual funding. It is very frustrating to have to wait soooooo long to find out yes or no! I think there should be some kind of updates...even if it is where we fall into the funding preference based on our submitted information (ie. debt:income, facility designation, etc).

Nursebreeze..I too received an email to verify pay off amounts on July 27th and faxed everything over immediately. Did the analyst give you a phone number to call? I called to confirmed that they received my information. Maybe you should try calling instead of email to verify they received everything. but I'm sure they did..they are probably extremely busy with the process.

KnRodgers...I agree, some people who were awarded in previous years were never contacted. I did provide all the loan information in my application so I'm not exactly sure why they need to verify my payoff amounts. I wouldn't be worried-- everything seems inconsistent. Some people who were contacted received awards and some people who had no contact received awards as well so it doesn't mean its a bad thing if you have not received any contact. The person who contacted me was the analyst reviewing my application..so I don't even know what that means exactly..haha.. I received no contact last year and no award either..it was depressing...Either way, I guess we will all find out september/october..and I think we all have something in common here, we are stressed in the mean time but it will be a blessing if we get it!

Okay everyone...check your emails. I received this email today with 2 contracts to sign and fax back. Here is what the email says:

On February 17, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act ("Recovery Act") of 2009. The Recovery Act provides substantial additional funding for the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP).

Due to the availability of the additional funds, the Bureau of Clinician Recruitment and Service expects to be able to assist in the recruitment and retention of a significantly larger number of RNs dedicated to providing health care in facilities with a critical shortage of nurses or considering a career in such facilities.

You have been identified as a possible recipient of a Recovery Act award. If you want to be considered for a NELRP Recovery Act award, complete the attached form, sign the NELRP Recovery Act contract, and fax both items within 24 hours of the date of this notice to:

I'm hoping this is a good sign, but you know how the government is. Anything is possible!! I definately thanked God when this email came across!! :saint: :yeah: Has anyone else heard anything?

I received the email today with the contracts to sign...WOO HOO! Praying this is a good sign.....

YAH!!!! I got the e-mail today too!!!

i got these forms emailed to me today, too! i initially received a phone call verifying pay-off of one of my loans back in early june... but then hadn't heard anything since then. sounds like people are getting these emails at different times, so keep your fingers crossed and good luck everyone! i hope we ALL get it :D

Just wondering if those of you who received the email with the contract forms can tell me what the title of the email was...I have gmail, and emails from random addresses tend to get sent to SPAM. I usually delete all SPAM emails right away without looking at them. Did this email come to your inbox...and does anyone who got the email have gmail?? I hope I didn't accidentally delete it if it came! Also, I noticed that HHS checked into my credit report.... hope this is a good sign, or do they do this for everyone?

roxy-- the email has the subject "your nursing education loan repayment application." i don't have gmail, so i am not sure about that, but i hope it doesn't/didn't get deleted in your spam! :( good luck!

I have g-mail and the email wasn't sent to my spam but it may depend on what filters you have.

I got a phone call today from NELRP asking me to sign the contracts and fax them back by 5 pm tomrrow, but I had never received the email in the first place! I called back and they had the wrong email address for me. She corrected it and I received the email in about an hour. I have gmail too and it didn't go to spam for me. Apparently I should have received this email a long time ago, judging by when everyone else received it!! Thank God they called to verify!! fingers crossed!
