needing some advice, what would you do?

Nurses General Nursing

Let's say you have a (nursing) job you've been doing this job for about 5 months now... it pays well, you don't hate what you do but you really don't love it, you don't live for it. You don't find it challenging or thrilling. You currently don't work weekends AT all however it IS 5 8 hour shifts, (not the most desirable) and also it's union.

you get offered a new job, which is essentially your dream job, it's in critical care, (which is what I was always certain I'd do, never a wavering thought). It's a rotation through 3 ICU's (surgical/trauma, neuro, C/T) and at the end of 4 months, you're offered a definate position in one of them. The shifts are usually rotating IE 7a-7p then next week 7p-7a (and I don't really have a problem with that). It does require you to work either 1 out of 4 weekends or every other (depending on which unit the final offer comes from). The pay is a little less, about 3$ per hour, however the shift differentials are better.

Which do you choose?

Pay cut would be way too much (for me personally). At the same time... you should do what you love, but if you're content where you are at the moment, you should stick with it.

I think that fact that you keep defending the new job says it all. Its the one you really want.

Here's a trick I learned when trying to make a decision. Flip a coin. Heads new job, tails old job. You will find that as the coin is falling, you are wishing for it to be either heads or tails. That is what you really want so don't even bother looking at the coin. Your decision has been made.

You say it's your dream job, I think that's your answer right there.

Do what you want to do.

Exactly, SteelcityRN...do what you want to do. Exactly...:nurse:

The rotating shifts were the only thing throwing me, so if you like that, do it! Plus, depending your age and where you are in life (children, etc), making less money can be easier in the beginning of a career. If you don't have kids, now is the time, cause you might not be able to swing even a few thousand less a year when you do! Anyways, never a bad idea to be happy in what you do - sometimes it really is more important than money. good luck! it sounds very interesting.
