need opinions about withdrawing from class

Published

hello everyone. i was hoping that y'all could give me your honest opinion about withdrawing from a class.

i started taking the prerequistes for nursing school this semester. i already have an undergraduate degree in accounting. i signed up for 2 online classes and 2 lecture/lab science class..one bio and one chem. the chem class has been a lot more work than i thought.

my one online class is human growth and development. the prof i have is horrible....my advisor just told me i shouldn't have taken him. his online class is totally confusing and set up backwards. the material is more complicated than i thought and i now wish i would have taken this class as a lecture. thus, i am thinking of withdrawing from the class. i will get a withdraw passing on my transcript.

how bad does this look? do you think it will affect my chances of getting into nursing school? i guess the reason i'm super paranoid is because i went to three different colleges before i graduated. i have always been embarssed about this and therefore i get paranoid that anything i do in the future might look back. i know i need to get over it, but it just keeps haunting me.

anyway, let me know if you think it will affect my chances of getting into nursing school. when i apply, can i tell the school that i withdrew because it was an online class and i decided that i needed to take it as a lecture class?

thanks

Unless you do it a lot or the W counts as an F--one of the schools I went to counted them as such, but don't think that's common--I don't think it will make much of a difference.

I also went to several colleges because it took me a long time to get through and I was in different places. I haven't found (thus far) that it has been a problem--except for having to order and pay for more than one transcript ;).

I'd think it would be better to withdraw and retake the class than to make a really bad grade.

If you're ever asked, you could just say that you did not feel able to do justice to both classes at this particular time. I doubt you'll be asked.

It should not affect you. Under those circumstances I would too.

W's show as W's on your transcript. If you take the class over, the grade you got replaces the W.

At our school (community college), a "W" would be replaced with the letter grade when you retake the class. As far as applying for nursing clinicals, they only look down at "W"'s in biology classes.

I withdrew from my pharmacology class my first yr of Nursing school as i did not have a clue as to what my instructor was talking about. I had a W on it but i retook it the next yr and had an A on it. Yes, the W is still on the front page of my transcript but when u flip over to the next page, U'll see that i got an A in pharmacology.

I'll advise that you try your best and hang in there but if you believe that you can't do it anymore, u should be fine to drop it and retake it later.

I would say that having a W is better than a bad grade. Also I think this happens to alot of students with online classes. The Sciences are hard classes and many people say that they had a horrible time taking them online. Some people do well in online classes and some dont, especially when they end up with a professor that is not much help. I would withdrawl and take it in class to see if that helps. Also, ask some other students which professor they recommend before you register.
