Hello there,
My name is Irene, this is my first time here! I find this website to be amazing. I wish I wouldve known about it before:o.
Well at the current moment, I am a Junior in college trying to get into Nursing school. Soon I will be taking my pre-entrance exam god willing. However, I have a question for you guys. My friend mentioned to me about the EMT program and I love the idea.I want to know if it would be a good idea to do the EMT program for the meantime being that it takes a whole semester which i think most likely il be off school since they are not offering the class I need for this spring semester coming up. My plan was to get into EMT for the meantime, by February I'll probably have taken the exam and i would be waiting for the results. I mean i think the EMT program will be great use of my time and it will give me a great idea of how it is to work in the medical field. Please HELP!!!!

If you can afford it, time-and-money wise, I'd say go for it! I was on a 4-to-5 year waiting list for an RN program and decided to enroll in a private LPN program in the meantime--now I'm working instead of waiting and it's incredible.
Cool! but mainly the question was towards EMT program...
Yeah a lot of people have told me theres a long wait to get into nursing school. I realy do not want to wait. How did you get into LPN... i am currently in my 3rd year in a community college my major is nursing but i will get my associates untill i complete the nursing program. which looks very far away... i want to start already and i do not want to lose anytime. Do you have any advice? Should I change my major?

I know a lot of my classmates who became EMT's and worked as EMT's while they were taking classes for the nursing program. The only thing I advise is that nursing school itself is a full time thing. So your going to have to be the one to determine whether you can work and go to school full time. Some people can handle it, some can't.
So if you have the time and the money for both programs, i dont see why not?
we don't have a waiting list in the RN program i was accepted to, it was either you got in or you didn't, and you had to reapply.
Yeah well for RN i would have to be waiting a huge waiting list and if i start it will be a full-time thing which i may not be able to being that I've always worked.
That is kind of strange how some schools or programs have a waiting list? Like i said, we don't have one, everyone has to reapply every year. 450 or so applicants and they only accept 100 of them.
If you are looking in to LPN, be advised that if you are trying to get financial assistance, and depending on where you are going, you will have to pay out of pocket.
But only one semester for EMT? Really? it takes at least a year, if not longer, here. But I know the students get A LOT of hands on training.
IM SO CONFUSED! =(
contact the school your going too, they will be able to help you. If you want to do EMT, research it some more, don't go off of what someone tells you, ya know? There's not a problem with doing EMT and going for nursing school, i see it all the time.
If you dont want to do EMT, have you looked in to CNA? [certified nurse assistant] Dont let someone make the decision for you. Just because it seems glamorous to someone else, doesnt mean it will be the same for you.

EMT classes are a semester long.. Ive never ever heard or seen of a EMT program that is longer than a semester.. there are private programs that you can get, your EMT in as little as 14 days.. Its expebsive and I wouldnt reccomend it.. Paramedic programs on the other hand are usually a year long (some are 6 months full time M to F).. EMT is a great way to get your foot in the door of you want to get into emergency nursing.. just be aware youll be making close to minimum wage workibg as an emt.. CNA is a good option too of you wanba be closer to bedside can
Sorry for the spelling im on my phone

But yes, most EMT's get in to ER nursing or Med-Surg.

OP why don't you contact the relevant universities/campuses/colleges and discuss it with them?
Only you can decide what you want to do. But if money is a deciding factor and you don't want to wait for anything, I'd do the one you can get into first, then you can always go into nursing later. It is not the end of the world if u can't or don't get accepted into nursing first.
