Hi All Nurses,

I recently passed my NCLEX-PN and did my BLS also. I live in the East Bay area of California. Been applying for a job anywhere from Assisted living to Nursing homes, but unfortunately no one is hiring without at least one year experience. I am having difficulty and running out of money to support myself. I dont know where else to go anymore, i dont know where is the place that hires new grads or giving us a chance to get experience at all. I just feel like this is SO UNFAIR TO US!! spend money to take the board and studying to be an LVN then now NO ONE is this area wants to hire us...Is there anyone here RN, LVN who are working at this moment that can help me at least find a nursing position in the East Bay area?? I would appreciate it so much!! Thank you. You can pvt me or just post here...:nurse::nurse::crying2::crying2::confused::confused:

I guessed nobody want to help here either!...:-(...oh well, at least i tried! Thanks

You may need to move to Texas. I heard Texas is the state where they still hire new nurses. Good luck. I hope someone who lives in CA can help you out. I use to live in CA many years ago but moved because of the lack of jobs. :crying2:

I dont know anyone in Texas. I don't have any relatives there. so that makes it hard for me to do that. I can only work here or get an endorsement in IL I still have relatives there can help and i used to live there in Chicago. I am kinda hoping that there anyone here RN or LVN who's already working in the Bay area and know of some place that is hiring or the place they work is hiring and can get me in. I would gratelly appreciate it for life...Thanks

Try searching Careerbuilder.com or even craigslist. I totally understand and feel your frustration. The economy is so bad that nobody wants to spend the money to train you. Which really is bad concept because when you go from one job to the next THEY HAVE TO TRAIN YOU ANYWAY. So I really don't see the logic in that. When I was looking for a job and they would turn me down because of lack of experience. I turned the tables on them and asked them how did they gain their experience? I asked them if they were born with experience or were they novices like I was. Boy did that shut them up quickly. Good Luck

Yeah, east bay is one of the hardest places in the entire country for a new nurse to obtain a job. I'm sorry. I had many classmates in my RN program with many years of LVN experience who spent 6 months or more job hunting. It's not that noone wants to give you and hint about where to find a job, it's that there is stiff competition for the very few jobs available. I would imagine at least 100 applicants for even a nursing home job.

I understand everything you guys said in here. The ONLY thing is.......HOW DO THEY EXPECT YOU TO GET WORK EXPERIENCE WHEN THEY DON'T WANT TO HIRE YOU AND TRAIN OTHERS AND GIVE YOU THE EXPERIENCE YOU NEED? ITS A STUPID CONCEPT!! DON'T YOU THINK?? THEY NEED TO CHANGE THIS BULL...ITS UNFAIR TO US NEW GRADS AFTER ALL THIS SCHOOLING. WHY IS THE US GOVERNMENT IS NOT ACTING ON THIS MATTER??..HOSPITALS ARE SO CHEAP THEY DON'T WANT TO PAY TO TRAIN NEW GRADS..ITS RIDICULOUS!!

I didn't know anyone in Texas or have any relatives when I moved there from California several years ago. I moved to Texas because I began to see the writing on the wall regarding the nursing job market in California. After moving to TX, I found my first LVN position only one day after having received my license. I didn't need relatives or connections to accomplish that. When there's a will, there's a way.

As much as I want to move back to California, I realize that I must stay in Texas for now if I wish to remain employed.

Perhaps join a branch of the armed forces, as they have a need for nurses. They will shelter you, feed you, clothe you, and provide you with steady income for as long as you are willing to commit. It's much safer than being unemployed for possibly a year or longer in the Bay area.

Hitchhiking is free. :)

When I grew unable to support myself being unemployed in the Bay area, I moved to SoCal and immediately found work. Now there is virtually no work in SoCal, or I would suggest you also move to the LA area. You are going to have to deal with moving out of the Bay area for work or realizing that finding a job in the Bay area could take years instead of months. I ran out of money living there unemployed, so I left.

Yes, I am so glad that I left Calif years ago. I remember thinking at that time "I better move out now while I still have the money to move out." I have enjoyed moving to different cities and states. I found it exciting. Sure it was a hassle to move but I got to experience and explore many different places. My Mom and I would talk on the phone usually every week or so. That was nice. As for my other relatives, it was nice to get away from them.:yeah:

Now that I have grown old, I have no desire to move. Of course, with today's economy I may need to move again in the future. I hope not. I really do love Florida.;)
