I bought the study guide but I have heard it is not much help when preparing for this test. I will be taking it in Nov at MCC. I was wondering if anyone bought "Hesi Test Secrets" from Morrison Media. It is $40, but it is worth it?
Any study advice would be appreciated!
What study guides did you use? I am taking the same sections at the end of Oct. and I have bought the Barrons and Kaplin Study Guides and one of the girls I work with who is also taking the test the same day bought the McGraw-Hill Study Guide, we are both so nervous about taking the test. I have already found a typo in the Barrons in the math portion, so I'm a little worried about about being prepared for the test. My school only takes the top 32 test scores out of around 60 applicants so I need to score atleast a 90% and you did so well, I wanted to know what study guides you used and where you found them? Congrats on your score!
Kari72. Sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to you...I used the Mosby Elsevier Admisson Assessment Exam Review 2nd edition. That's the study guide that Carrington suggested. I didn't use anything else but the information that's in the study guide. I made flash cards on quizlet.com that REALLY helped me. Especially for all the conversions. You can probably find them on that website just search hesi and look for the sets created by me. I'm under the same name on that site. Let me know if I can help in any other way. Yes I'm trying to get in for Jan. 2011. Why are you guys waiting til May??? I heard they're getting more and more applicants each semester. Sometimes up to 150! I'm just hoping that a 94% is high enough! I don't find out until mid-November.
I took it on Monday, and it was cake. I waited a year to take it because I was scared to fail it. I bought every HESI prep book out there and all you need to focus on is the following:
1. Math = Fractions, Ratios, Roman numbers, and metric system (liquid mostly)
2. Reading = If you read much you shouldn't have a problem, they want to see if you can get the main idea, understand the meaning etc.
3. Vocab = again if you read a lot you should be ok.
4. Grammer= know your word usage, such as, when to use Their, There, Was, Is,
I scored a 91% and most of what I studied was not on the test!
leilani1983, i'm sure you will get in with a score that high, i can't imagine that 32 other people will score higher than 94.3%. i just bought the hesi study guide and i found your flashcards, too. thank you so much. i'm waiting till may because of finances, i wasn't planning to get into nursing school for another few years at wnc, but i'm sick of waiting and just want to be a nurse. i'm so nervous about the test since getting into carrington is all dependent on it. i most stressed about the vocabulary section, i think i will do fine on the math and reading. do you know when you can start talking to them about financial aid do you have to wait till your accepted or can you start talking to them when you put in your application? i would to know how much i will have to get in private student loans more than a month before the start date! i appreciate all the help you have given me! i hope you get into the jan start date!

kari72-
when i did the info session with carrington there were alot of people who had been planning on doing their nursing program with wnc or tmcc and are just sick of waiting. it's totally understandable, i don't want to wait either. in fact, i didn't even want to wait until january to start so i ended up enrolling in a cna course for this semester just to learn as much as possible before nursing school. i was too late to apply @ carrington for the aug. 2010 semester. i actually started my clinicals for my cna class today which was very interesting. i think it will help me alot when i get into the real nursing stuff later on. anyway, to answer your question, as soon as you pass your hesi above 75%, the director will contact you to set up an interview with her and then you'll go directly to financial aid. i was surprised at how much i received in student loans. i had a pretty solid income in 2009 so i wasn't expecting to get as much as i did. after the student loans, i will owe about $5,000 either by payment or personal loan. not too bad in my opinion. definately worth it. let me know if you have any other questions and good luck studying for the exam. i'm sure you'll do just fine :) if i could give you any advice on the vocab it would be pay attention to grammar. the exam will throw words in there that you've probably never heard but if you pay attention to what works grammatically, it cancels out most of the possible answers. again, good luck and i am more than happy to help.
leilani1983, wow that was really good with financial aid and student loans, only $5000 left for either private loans or cash. i am worried about that because my husband makes good money as law enforcement and i make ok money right now as well as a banker but i will not be able to continue working during school. but that helps me feel better that they talk to you as soon as you pass the hesi. that was a smart idea to sign up for a cna course, where are you doing that at? i'm still trying to learn about the schools around here, my husband and i just moved here from ca. i was trying to get into nursing school in ca but to even get in to a school there you have to have some sort of experience in the medical field either as an employee or volunteer. good luck with your cna course!

the good thing about you not working once you're in school is that you'll have to re-apply for financial aid each fiscal year. carrington blocks out the cost in 3 "years". 2 semesters for each year. the 2nd year is the really expensive one. so you may receive less financial aid at first because of your current income (which is okay because the first year is the least expensive) but then you will probably get more the second time you apply because you're financial situation will have changed due to you not working. i hope that makes sense. anyway, i'm doing the cna course through tmcc. they actually have a course through wnc that is only 6 weeks! i think you go 4 days a week. but, you'd have to wait until january. you could still do that before starting nursing at carrington in may. i really recommend it. i'm learning so much and working directly with nurses in my clinicals. it's actually really fun.
I took my Hesi today (didn't have any reviews at all). I just took it to see where I fare on this whole thing. I finished all 4 sections (A&P, Math, Reading, Grammar) in under two hours and passed (87.73). I know my cummulative is not that great but considering that I've been out of school for quite a while with no reviews, I think I did pretty well. :) Fractions and ratios was a big thing in math, so thus conversation. Grammar and Reading were pretty simple. A&P, not very detailed (so long as you know the basics, you're fine). Good luck! :)
After coming to the forum for about a year for information, I finally signed up. I'm taking my HESI entrance on Oct 19 and am a little panicked! I am a 4.0 student, but haven't had Bio or Chem in 30 years and we do use that portion of the test. I've had A & P 1 & 2 and am currently in Microbio. Any good tips for what to focus on when studying for that portion? I confess I jumped from about page 10 to here to post!
I just discovered this forum a few days ago in me search for information on the HESI A2 exam. I am taking the next next week and have been using the Evolve Reach Study Guide for the HESI A2 and the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance exam review books. I find that the questions in the Kaplan book are much more difficult then the Evolve Reach book. I am wondering if anyone knows how much the Evolve Study Guide prepares you?

Stingray77,
Hope you do great on your HESI. Is there anyone else out there that will share their HESI practice questions or has any CURRENT info from West Coast University or anywhere else. Please... help! Thanks so much.
