Ok my license has been suspended due to not entering a rehab for the RNP program Details don't really matter but I took some of my friends Xanax she gave me bc I had many anxiety attacks after having 2 babies in one year i realize I did wrong I was having ppd or something and failed a random anyway doesn't matter bc on the license verification page it says suspended that's all but if you google me on the state board site says suspended due to non compliance of alcohol or drug problem. Has anyone ever lost or had a suspended license and went on to teach high school middle school or elementary? Any help will be greatly appreciated I have a BSN and have an interview this week to teach middle school with a temporary certification I just don't know if I should bring it up or what to do

In my state (Alaska) jobs that require a professional lisence are all investigated by the same folks (Alaska state professional lisence investigators to be exact). We get investigates by the Same people And then The investigation is forwarded to our particular board. I'd check on your states investigation website to see if they are also monitored by the same folks.

Same in the state I live in....professional background checks all go through the state police.

Also, to the OP....I am not sure if you are having a full blown anxiety event or not, but if your post is representative of your use of language and grammar, you may have issues with teaching, regardless.

It's possible that I'm mistaken, but I was under the impression that this forum was meant as a support system for nurses in recovery. I'm not sure how an assessment of someone's grammar fits into that category. We're here to raise each other up, not tear each other down.

To the OP, I don't know the answer to your question, but I wish you the best. Just keep doing the next right thing and it will all fall into place as it should. Good luck.

Maybe you should get it clarified with the state BON? Personally I would have issues with someone teaching my kids who had such a record - although it does sound like you came up against some bad luck. Were you given a chance to get rehabilitation?

Good point.

Look...we come to this site frightened, some even terrified out of their minds. Stress = cognitive impairment = it doesn't matter how someone is writing when they are under stress and seeking guidance. If a patient showed up scared out of their wits in your emergency room would you propose to correct their speech? Please, let's refrain from judgement here. We all (even those without addiction issues) get judged enough out there. How about offering up some hope and love instead.

Have you looked at your state dept of education website? I know many states this would carry over between professional licensing especially if the suspension was due to lack of completion of a mandatory program or treatment. If you had a restricted license but completed mandated recovery treatment/program it would likely be no more of an issue than any other resolved medical condition.

Since you have a suspended professional license, not mentioning this could be construed as an act of omission and cost you the job. Review any paperwork you were given for this job. I know even my nursing license and many job applications ask if ANY license was suspended or restricted ever.

We must realize that many folks come to this forum who have no addiction issues- for who knows what reasons. & they often judge us harshly & without compassion. Perhaps they should remember to not judge another until "you have walked a mile in their mocassins"!! They have no idea what our journey has been like or is like now.

Thanks for the input..fyi and made and A in both college English classes as well as all of my papers in nursing school. I just dont feel that in a forum I am constructing a research paper. Anyway I have already passed the state background check but for my certification application it has that dreaded question have you ever had a license suspended revoked etc. So I was just hoping one of you would know anyone that has actually be successful in this endeavor. Also to trishmsn Im sorry I am a veteran and while I was serving I developed annuity attacks and put on an SSRI although I have seldom breakthrough. In response to HOPE3456 what wonderland are you living in I know teachers that drink 2 bottles of wine a night to cope, take opiates during class, molest children, start relationships with children do cocaine occasionally and other drugs so taking a Xanax before bed not driving in your opinion is deemed a quality to not teach. Well its a wonder we all made it through school with these terrible self medicating educators and another thing you can have a felony I know in my state and after 3 years apply for a certification of course no rape molestation murder etc. SO who knows what kind of "terrible" person is teaching your children. I have 3 kids so I dont take it lightly thanks again

Hey OP, although you do not have an addiction I do hope you keep posting about your journey here. I'm sure others who have yet to go through what you are going through would be greatful, not to mention we feel your pain here and there is so much love and support here.
