BS ac and hs (they are all together)
Does it mean blood sugar before meals and at bed time?

edit: Whoops, completely misread. I thought you were asking what it actually meant.
I am asking if I got the abbreviation correct. Does it mean check blood sugar before meals and at bed time?

One step further...medicine originally had it's origins in Latin.
ac: ante cibum, before a meal or ante cibos, before meals.
hs: hora somni, before sleep, at bedtime
When I went to school we had to learn them all.

Esme, that's because when you and I were in school, they were just inventing Latin ;-). Just kidding.
When I couldn't remember the real Latin term, I would make up my own. HS= Hour of Sleep. For ac vs pc; A comes before P. P is after A. The C always reminded me of Pac Man eating. ac=before eating. pc=after eating.
It sounded so simple in my head at the time!

When I see Pac Man, I think of trichimonas (sp?)on a slide under the microscope. The look just like they're biting!!! Just like Pac Man gobbles!
Boy! What a flight of ideas.

I find the medilexicon abbreviations site ( Medical Abbreviations and Pharmaceutical Abbreviations Dictionary ) to be very helpful. While there is almost too much information, contextual clues (and asking nurses) help me figure out the correct abbreviations. This ambiguity reminds me that not everyone will understand my abbreviations, and I tend not to use them if there is a good chance that another person may misinterpret my intent.
