So I'm a few weeks into my anatomy and physiology course for my LVN program and my teacher is extremely hard. He failed over half the class last term. So far we have taken 3 tests and I've earned a 85%, 52%, and a 76%. My average grade for the class is a 79%. I'm looking for tips anyone can offer me to help improve and understand the information better. Our next test is on the skeletal system and the muscular system. Our teacher also gives us study guides which I've been using. Does anyone have any good websites or apps? I'm meeting up with a couple of classmates today to study but any help will be great! I still have approximately 10 tests left! My other classes (foundations and nutrition) I'm doing well in with high B's. Thanks!
It's a beautiful day to save lives.

With A&P 1 and 2 I relied a lot on You Tube. Bullharrier, Professor Fink, and Dr. Diamond with UC Berkley are great professors to watch. Good Luck!

I have to agree, Youtube is a great place to start. Pnuemonics are awesome for the skeletal system and lots and lots and lots and studying... did I mention lots of studying? My A&P class has been taught by a veternarian who reads to us from the book. So, I've pretty much had to teach myself the concepts this semester. I try to read ahead and I take advantage of the online quizes from the book. I wish you the best luck!

Hmm - it would seem that your teacher is going the extra mile to help students succeed by providing study guides. Remember, the teacher doesn't fail students... students fail themselves because they don't make passing grades. Always take ownership for your own behavior.
You're taking all the right steps. Keep up the effort and you'll be fine.

That sounds like a &p to me! We started the semester with 20 people. Had 4 still there on the last day. It's a weed out class for sure. YouTube helped me a LOT!! Watch as many videos on the systems as you can in addition to your regular studies. Also, get a study buddy that sort of understands it. Practice repetition on the terms .
Good luck!

This was my thought exactly when reading the OP. The teacher didn't "fail half the class", half the class failed.
OP, what part are you having difficulty with?

I get that we have to take responsibility for our grades, I worded that wrong. I fully take all the credit for my grades. I just need better strategies for studying. How do you keep so much info without mixing it up. I'm also having a hard time picking out the most important parts of the chapter. In my other classes (Foundations and Nutrition)I can easily predict test questions.

Sounds like a typical AP class, however at my school AP1 and AP2 are part of the admission requirements. We are on a point based system. But anyways, AP is just a lot of memorization. Anatomy wise, break things down into bite size chunks. One thing I used to do was search out the internet for graphics of organs, use something like mspaint to delete the labels, print off a few extra copies and relabel them by memory until I had mastered it. For physiology part, flash cards ruled, and re-reading the notes a few times usually worked for me.

Flash cards!! Most of a&p is memorization, once you memorize the main things then you can go further into understanding how it all works together as a system. I just finished a&p 2 a month ago, I got an A in both of them. Also study groups with flash cards, getting another persons question on the same material is very helpful.

And they don't utilize all of the resources the professor avails to them which is purely elective. Being in nursing school I have learned to UTILIZE EVERY RESOURCE THAT IS OFFERED TO ME. Listen CLOSELY to the lectures. Record them if you can. I do it with my iPhone. Listen, listen, listen. Take notes. I find that more often than not, test questions tend to come directly from lectures, which can be rationalized verbatim from the text. And yes, use youtube. And if you can, find a website that can drill you on the different bones and muscles. I used one that worked really well but I can't remember it

I have to agree with mo1222, flash cards was the best tool for me. I do however happen to love a&p. Once you make your flash cards then continuously go through them, I'm talking throughout the day everyday. Spend extra time going over the ones you are having trouble remembering. Also, along with memorizing, try and understand the process of the particular body system you are learning. If you understand, then it will make more sense. Good luck!!
