Need help finding the right ABSN program

Published

Hello all,

My name is Jessica, I am new to allnurses.com and hoping to get some helpful advice/direction on continuing my education. This spring I will be graduating from Kean University in NJ, with a B.A Biology and a minor in psychology. I would love to enter into an accelerated program but I am having a difficult time finding a program I can directly enter.

Most of the schools I have looked into the only prerequisite I am missing is Micro Biology w/ lab. I am hoping to find a program that I will not have to take any more courses to get into. Can anyone suggest any programs that will not require microbiology as a pre req?

Since I wont be working during the program I am hoping to find a school no more than 1hr away from my home in Union County, NJ.

I know this is kind of a specific question but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks so much in advance for any advice you can share! :)

Pretty much every nursing school is going to require micro. It's a standard prerequisite.

Agree: micro is a must. I do not see what is the problem: it is only one class to take. I have taken 6, and still have to take 4 more, and not complaining. Just do it and be done with it.

Micro is a pretty standard pre req, you aren't going to get around taking it. I'm a bit confused as to how micro wasn't a requirement for your biology degree really. It was for my biology BS and I know it was for many others. I just finished taking micro again for my pre reqs because I took it for my bio degree over 10 years ago.

I am taking Micro online with a lab through Portage Learning, it is accredited through Geneva college. My ABSN program accepts this and you can finish everything on your own time so you can drag the course out as long as a year or complete it in as close to 8 weeks. It is also very affordable compared to University as well. Def check with your school programs if they would accept those kind of courses though.
