Need Excelsior Clarification

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I am trying to sort out the info for Excelsior & need a little help. Can I get study material from eBay, yahoo, etc & contact Pearson to schedule test dates prior to enrolling. Basically I am looking to do this for the core classes if possible. Also, do I have to pay the $190 (3 credit) $220 (4 credit) & $280 (6 credit) for each exam if I am not purchasing the guided learning material? Can someone please get me very clear cut answers to what I will be "required" to pay for other than the enrollment, application, student services, CPNE, grad fees? Thanks so much for helping me sort out all the options a little clearer! Have a blessed day.

P.S. Not sure if I was clear about this - when you apply to Excelsior, they will evaluate your past credits and tell you exactly what you need to have to graduate. Don't bother to try to figure this out yourself, because what the school says you need is what you need. What you need to know from Excelsior is if these courses need to be done before, or concurrently with the NUR1-7 series.

Just to piggy back of of this. All she needs to do is pay the $75 application fee for them to evaluate her transcripts. Once they do that, then she can clep out of the prerequisites through EC. You DO NOT have to pay the $895 enrollment fee to take the prerequisites. In my opinion, I think you need to take the sciences through CC if your planning on getting your BS or Masters because a lot of schools will not accept the Clep A&P and Microbiology without a lab. I feel like its wasting your time if you want to go further at another school. But if you decide to get your BS or Masters through Excelsior then you have nothing to worry about. Hope this helps.

the enrollment takes about 3 weks. i got in the program in march '07 and had my first NC in april. i scheduled all my exams ahead of time (being on a tight schedule helped me), about 2-3 wks apart. i had a total of 10 exams (6 NC and 4 general education) and was done with all of them in 5 months (aug '07). then the waiting for the cpne began, it's over thank god, i'm scheduled for feb 29th '08. that brings me to a total of 11 months.

i bought all the books required for my exams, was too chicken not to...around $1000 for the NCs and another 800 for the gen ed. i bought the textbooks and the study guides. the study guides helped a lot, some of the material was on the actual test. and then i took the practice exams ($60 each, for 200 questions), again some of them were on the actual test. i passed everytime, with flying colors. i also used the saunders book.

good luck to you all...this program is not easy, takes a lot of work, but it's worth it.

Thank you to everyone who posted here:

I have read all 9 pages so far. I have found the information very useful. One question I have is...How much LPN experience do you need? Can you be a new grad?

Yes you can be a new grad, as long as you have you license. Some people don't recommend it, but some people find it very useful to be fresh out of school.

Absolutely none. :D Paramedics and RTs (among others) can do this program, too! LOL. I have zero LPN experience. :)

HELP!!!! I have been accepted into Excelsior and already enrolled. I have not paid the $900 admission fee since I can take NC1 w/o spending the money up front. I am on-line at EC and cant figure out how to start.................HELP?!?!?!?:paw:

Hi Shaytona,

Don't know if anybody responded yet. Yes, you can be a new grad. The only fly in the ointment at Excelsior is you MUST take the nursing exam series no matter what you come in with, with the one exception that you can skip the second exam is you have the LPN - other than the exam series there's the CPNE clinical exam too, Gotta go, but pm me if you have particular questions about it. All around, you will probably save a lot more time and money rather than going to a regular program.

your not enrolled until you pay the fee or set up a payment plan..if you are wanting to take nc 1 look under exams and you will see a link that will take you to register for exams.

Danis,

Did you create an account? You have to log in to register for an exam, even if you haven't paid the enrollment fee yet.
