Need Excelsior Clarification

I am trying to sort out the info for Excelsior & need a little help. Can I get study material from eBay, yahoo, etc & contact Pearson to schedule test dates prior to enrolling. Basically I am looking to do this for the core classes if possible. Also, do I have to pay the $190 (3 credit) $220 (4 credit) & $280 (6 credit) for each exam if I am not purchasing the guided learning material? Can someone please get me very clear cut answers to what I will be "required" to pay for other than the enrollment, application, student services, CPNE, grad fees? I am looking for some advice possibly from others who are in my situation or are familiar with it. I recently failed out of my nursing program for my RN, I was "almost done" I was on my very last class when I failed and so now I am looking for another way to finish my degree. I came across excelsior in which allowed students like me who have completed at least 50% of their nursing school to graduate. I was excited to have found such a school, but "now" my dilema is in the state of FL where I now live, they do not allow a person in my situation to work in the state of FL as an RN, unless I am an LPN first before admission. So, my options were to go to another state get licensed there and "then" work in FL but only in Govt. affilliated businesses such as the VA hospital or at a medical correctional facility. I am willing to take that option and work at the VA hospital, however my question is I do not know what other states would accept a license under the circumstances, and if I have to be a resident at that state to be licensed there? I do want to pursue excelsior, I just don't want to end up with nowhere to work.......Please help.

I don't know the FLA laws about all this but I know a little about transferring to Exclesior and licensing. Okay, there might be some glitches because of flunking out. For starters, there are some states that let you test for the NCLEX if you have three semesters of an RN course behind you. Now, here's glitch number one - this policy was recently changed in the state of NY, so I couldn't do this now. I got my LPN by taking the nclex-pn while still a student so I could work while finishing up online. You have to do your homework to find a state like this - just remember that you can test for your LPN in any state, it doesn't matter where you live. The thing is that while it doesn't matter where you live, it does matter that each state has different rules and requirements. For instance, I think that Massachusetts requires more educational background to get a license. I discovered that even though I had my LPN from New York, when I applied to reciprocity in Massachusetts, I still had to qualify for the MA rules. (NY requires fewer clinical and class hours of an unfinished RN program, I believe.)

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking - you want to work while finishing your RN at Excelsior as an LPN? One glitch you might encounter is, in my case at least, I had to have left the RN program "in good standing" meaning of my own free will, and not because of flunking out. So I don't know where that puts you. I do have a friend who flunked out of an RN program after two semesters. He then took some special "bridge program" that allowed him to test for the LPN.

Is this helpful at all? OK, plan b might be for you to put all your energy into getting your RN at Excelsior. The only way you know where and if you can test for the LPN is to explore different states. I'm not sure what you meant by working as an LPN before admission. Does that mean admission to a school? I'm unclear. I think your job is to first figure out how you might test for the LPN. If it isn't possible, this doesn't stop you from pursuing your RN if you get accepted at Excelsior. I hope this helps. The part of all this I didn't know before applying for reciprocity in MA is that even though I already had my LPN in NY, MA has its own rules and reciprocity is not automatic.

I went to their website (excelsior) so that I can download their content guides for the exams but I have no clue what to download... do I just download all their stupid nursing guides or what??

I am going to enroll after lpn school this summer but I am soooooo confused about this whole thing.

They don't make it easy, do they? Have you applied and enrolled yet?

Once you apply, they will look at your transcripts and tell you what you need to take. If you already have an LPN, you probably will take the nursing concepts series of exams - each one has its on content guide, then the CPNE, which is the big, expensive clinical test. With an LPN, you don't have to take Nursing Concepts 2. Also, take it one step at a time, start out by focusing on NUR1 - you don't even have to be enrolled when you do this, just accepted, to take the first one.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the texts are really expensive. I bought all of mine used online at amazon for a fraction of the cost.

Also Excelsior warns people not to buy outlines of the reading not affiliated with the school, but I bought some cds of book notes on Ebay, and I thought they were extremely good - they were done my lisa arrends. I'm still going to do all the reading, but many of the outlines available were done by students who went to Excelsior and did very well.

I have not yet enrolled just looking at all the info but I can not figure out which ones are the nursing concepts content guides, can you clarify maybe. I just want to download them all and have them in hand to read over and then decide where to buy my books and study guides from.

Edit: I think the reason I can not see the concepts outlines and guides is because I am not enrolled and have not applied, does this make sense????

do you know what the titles of these two guides are and exactly where you can find them because all i can find is things titled exam content guide:essentials of nursing.... etc etc

texas - i couldn't even locate 1 and 2. i always have to use ie instead of firefox with this web site,

That's what I am saying it is sooo confusing trying to find all the info on their website it seems everything has a different name than what I think I should look for.

If you're doing the associates, the only nursing ones you want are the nursing concepts series and the CPNE.

Did you just enroll?? They added a new thing on there which is a focused clinical course. exactly what you are asking. That is something new

Also do you have any idea what the content guide names are for the 1 and 2 that I can download without enrolling. I cant seem to figure out what the titles are

if you are not a enrolled student you should not even have access to download any content exam guides that you are not able to take. so in other words the only ones that you should be to download are 1 and 2. i do not know the names of them because i am under the old curriculum.

so i suppose i will just download and print all the ones that have to do with nursing i guess.:o
