Hello all...need help here. I am a new grad nurse who accepted a job because I was promised all this wonderful training and a training class for new grads. I TOLD them in the interview that I was a new grad and had NO experience with this type of nursing nor had any education in school with this specific type of nursing. So they promised me this wonderful training class that I have NOT had or any education for that matter..now 6 months later. Now everyday I go to work and I am told just how bad I am and how the other person they hired is doing so great and how is doing so much better than me. Oh FYI, this other persons dad is a personal friend of the manager. They have catered to the other co worker while I get the shaft. Also, the first week on the job this assist. manager tells me that she didnt think I was going to make it on the unit. I wonder why they hired me! I have always loved nursing and have done very well in school in clinicals. Anyways, now the assist. manager is making up things to get me wrote up. I have NEVER been wrote up in my life!!! The last job I left to go there went GREAT and I NEVER had a write up and always had SUPERIOR reviews. I have been trying to look for nursing jobs else where and have had no luck yet but I do think that this place will fire me if I stay. The managers have repeatedly told me that they dont think I fit there...but you would think that they would try to get me transferred out like they promised instead of writing me up for things I havent done. Should I quit or wait it out or should I sue them for not following the contract I signed? Any tip or advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Both the above recent posters have given excellent advice to you.. please think about what they have said.. I have been there before and I am not a new nurse.. For someone like that to bully and intimidate a nurse is just plain wrong.. keep your dignity intact by putting this behind you.. wishign you the best of luck in your endeavors

Get out of there before you get terminated and it goes on your record. Quit with 2 weeks notice and start hunting for a diff job.

Go to the CNO, the CEO, and the head of HR. I know someone who did this and her manager left her alone. She was being harrassed and written up for little things. The manager even made a comment to someone else saying "I can't figure her out". My friend was within hearshot and heard it. My friend is quiet and stays to herself.

After she went to the CNO, the CEO, and the head of HR, her manager left her alone. They even pulled the write ups from her file and she transferred to another dept.

Go up the chain.

Please do not let them (or any co-workers) know that you are leaving, this will give them additional reasons to push you out the door faster so you will not receive unemployment benefits if they terminate you. The manager is using intimidation; her actions could constitute workplace harassment. Are you comfortable with emailing her manager? I would email (not talk verbally) her boss once to give her an opportunity to correct the situation. If your manager continues, email HR and state you feel intimidated and sought help. Could you re-arrange your work schedule to work the days when she is off (nights, weekends, etc)? I would not consider it running away, just an opportunity to not feel like you are being watched. I would also email myself a brief overview of my shift (just be careful not to violate hipaa) to CYA. Keep your head up :)

Everyone gives so much helpful information !

you guys rock!!! :redbeathe :nurse:

Hey Kalami08..I have been getting wrote up so now I cannot transfer. It just does not make sense to me..if they want me out so bad you think they would be trying to get me transferred. Why would they try to hold me there by continuing to write me up for things I did not do?

I have a pretty good idea... they don't want you to stay in this hospital, because this might make them look bad ("She's a really good nurse, I just don't understand why manager X says bad things about her".) So they're setting you up to get fired. That's why they need documentation, since you have probably passed your probation period.

Run, run out of there just as fast as you can.

Best of luck to you,

DeLana

I would agressively start looking for a new job. Home care, nursing homes, anything. Put in applications everywhere and get the hell away from your current employer.

Thanks everyone for your support and advice...this whole thing has been a HUGE nightmare! I expected my first nursing experience to be great and this occurs. I have been going over this in my mind like what did I do to this woman for her to do this to me! I have never done or said anything to deserve this..nothing is worse than going to work crying everyday because I am going to be told how terrible I am and in front of the other staff and holding my job over my head everyday. NO MORE..I am taking back my life..and getting the hell out of there.

Your current manager person does not deserve to have a good, hardworking staff like you.

I really hope you mean it! I was under a similar circumstance, but thankfully had years of experience and many contacts in the field. I did finally resign. It was hard for me to do as I am not a quitter. Looking back, I should have done it sooner. You see, after a week of leaving the toxic mess, I was calmer. After two weeks, my BP went back to normal, after three weeks, I was a new person. Actually I was my old self. Happy again, loving life and all that goes with it again. I was free. While I was in the storm, I did not realize how sick it was making me. My body was shutting down, literally. My family and friends, all, were affected by this through me.

Anyway, please don't harp on it. Don't blame yourself or ask the what ifs. This had nothing to do with you and no matter what you did, or how you behaved, this was going to happen to you. Why, who knows, this is their issue. It is very important for you to believe this, let it go and move on. One day you will look back on this and chock it up to a learning experience. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. You are a stronger and wiser person right now. Now chin up and get on with your life. Peace!

Ps- less than a month later I got my dream job!

These healthcare systems/facilites know nurses will take any position if the nurse fits their hiring requirements- #1. - experience level( only ones getting jobs now are those with not too much say 2-5 yrs after that the payscale starts to climb) #2.- if you take a position that is not your unit or speciality of choice with the thought of the "foot in the door' then transfer philosophy, the management may get wind of you asking around( word always gets back) or looking for another position- then your days are numbered. You could be 'super nurse' and they feel they hired you for THAT position and THAT position only, and when this happens, if they cant find something ligit, they will make stuff up. They view is let's get some one who wants THIS job, there are plenty out there!! I found this out with the cardiac step down per deim job I took- that foot in the door philosopy( told to me by the hiring manager who hired me which was not the nurse manager) I waited fo a full time opening, kept my ears open, asked about the other unit's open position( interventional cardiac) when I heard something while working that other unit( interventional cardiac)on night, had the encouragement for the manager( interventional) and nuring staff(interventional), It got back to the manager( of the stepdown) I was assigned to. I had a time limiting temp job to supplement the cancellation from the per diem position. My days were numbered after that- I was picked, written up, All of a sudden after 18 month I could do nothing right. Nursaing has alway been a very MOBILE profession- that's why when youn look at these bio's you see nurses with MANY specialities. You could do one speciality for a few years, want a change, try a new and do it. It seems like you can't do that anymore- you get written up so you can't transfer off the unit( can't tranfer with writeups in your file) You choice is stay and be the target of the the managers' harassment and beating post or quit and start somewhere else. Disgusting isn't it?
