I just wondering if there are others out there applying this May for the Fall 2014 class. I just found out I have everything to apply at NCTC but with a B in A&P I I only have 10 points and I'm not sure if I will make the cut. Anyone else?
That sounds like a great idea!!! Where do you find those guides??? I definitely think I need that too!!!
Yes I will read some for pleasure but that always follows with guilt for not staying 100% focused on pre Rn. I have been denying myself that for a long time. Also I'm going to work full time till school start and overtime if I can.
I order all my books from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Test-Success-Test-Taking-Techniques-Beginning/dp/0803628188/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403291755&sr=8-1&keywords=test+success+test-taking+techniques+for+beginning+nursing+students
I am glad I am not the only one doing this with a family! I was afraid I might be the oldest in our group. However, I saw people my age on testing day!
It looks like I have some major catching up to do! Everyone inhale, exhale and relax.
Congrats on getting accepted and keep your eyes out for a packet in the mail. It will have your class schedule and a long list of things you need to take care of before classes start in August. You need to take care of the background check portion ASAP. That blue card that they need takes longer than they say it does to come in and you can't start class without it. You also need to start gathering all of your shot records because you have to upload them. Plan on having a physical completed as well. The packet will tell you everything that you need to know.
For some catch up information, orientation will be in August about a week or so before classes start. I don't know the exact date. At orientation, you will be given a mentor and added to your class facebook page - there is no need to set one up. You also don't need to register for classes since you will automatically be registered. You just need to be ready to pay for them! If you are taking classes outside the program, you still have to register for those yourself.
Plan to pay close to 1,000 for books. There is a box in the bookstore on the Gainesville campus that has everything you need - including the online codes for Kaplan and Elsevier. I know it seems like a lot, but it has every book and code you'll need for the entire program. If you buy them separately online and then get the codes, you're going to pay more. You will need some extra books for clinical, but they will tell you about those at orientation. They are a care plan book, a drug book and a lab diagnostics book and all of those are your choice so you can buy those used if you want.
Things that you can go ahead and buy are scrubs, shoes, a stethoscope and a blood pressure cuff. You will need at least one pair of true red Landau scrubs and one pair of white scrubs (any brand). The white scrubs have to be plain - no tunic top frilly mess with tie backs. You can wear any tennis shoes in class, but clinical shoes have to be all white. I have all white Nike's and Sketchers. If you get an all white shoe with a pink Nike swoosh or New Balance logo - that will be okay. You can get any blood pressure cuff and any steth. Several people in my class for the Littman Lightweight SE II on Amazon for $45 and we are happy with it.
Okay, I think that is a lot of information for you guys to digest! Scurbs...shoes...books - oh my! Your classes will be M-W for the first semester. Let me know if you have any pressing questions and I will try my best to answer them!! Good luck and congrats again!
Thank you very much! I do have one question for you. I applied to the LVN program and was accepted for Fall. When and how do I let them know so I can make the switch over to the ADN Rn program? Also will we be receiving the packet before the official acceptance letters (July 11th) or after the letters go out?
I had the background check done in May. Your right, it took several weeks to receive the blue card from BON. I also acquired a card with a set of finger prints. Would that be acceptable as I just did this recently for the LVN program?

T Hanks jls0459! Do you know if we can request specific class/clinical times? I have a child and so child care will be something I have to work around. Do we need to do that before our packet comes, or should I wait for that? I just want to make sure I don't get a night clinical this semester if possible!
Thanks for the information!!! Your help is much appreciated!

You guys are amazing. Great ideas, I was on the cleaning, organizing, cleaning out closets & getting as much done for the kids for school as I could...but I hadn't thought about cards, thanksgiving, etc. Great ideas! We are planning a family vaca around the end of July too which we are all looking SO forward too! I really want to get my books asap so I can start reading & read on our road trip some too. Gonna see what else I can get done for my family to make life easier once we are in full swing. With 3 boys all playing sports, they keep us hopping too much already, sounds like life is about to get really intesting! This will be here before we know it.
