NCTC ADN Fall 2014

Published

I just wondering if there are others out there applying this May for the Fall 2014 class. I just found out I have everything to apply at NCTC but with a B in A&P I I only have 10 points and I'm not sure if I will make the cut. Anyone else?

I am applying for the Fall ADN program. I recently saw an adviser and she said that 10 priority points is high enough to be invited to test for the Kaplan. According to the adviser, 10 points are some of the highest she has seen for the upcoming application period.

Thanks for the info...makes me feel a little better. I'm going to start studying some for the Kaplan, I've already taken the HESI and did pretty ok (93) but I heard the Kaplan was much harder. Have you been to an advising session? Good luck to you!

Hi, yes I have been to 2 advising sessions, one about a year ago the other yesterday just to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. If you haven't been to one, I suggest you go to Gainesville instead of Corinth. I am hoping to be invited to take the Kaplan this June too. I remember the nursing director saying the Kaplan is harder than the Hesi, but I feel like it would be easier since there is only one science to focus on and the math is simpler. Anyway, once I am done with my last class, I am going to be studying hard for the Kaplan.

Good luck to you too!

Thanks for the insight. I was going to go to the advising session in Cornith yesterday but ended up running too late, so I was going to get to the one I two weeks but I was planning on Cornith again but now I will make porhe treck Gainesville. Everything I have read & heard from those who have taken the Kaplan and other entrance exams say the Kaplan is the hardest. But I have to get invited to take it first! I know on the Hesi the math was 90% ratios/proportions & the A&P was all over the map from very detailed to very easy A&P I basic questions. But overall I didn't think the Hesi was that bad, I pulled my score down on the vocab of all things because it was very vague & confusing to me & I usually blow vocab/writing etc away. So now I'm most nervous about that section! Anyways, thanks for the info on the advising session, it's nice to talk to someone applying this fall too. What class are you finishing now? Are you taking it at NCTC?

I will be applying to NCTC as well for ADN. Is the Kaplan harder then the Teas V test?

Norwirn2, I have heard the nursing director say the Kaplan is harder than the HESI and in my opinion it will be easier than the Teas V. I think this because the Teas V contains all the sciences and math beyond what a nursing student would need. From what I have read and heard, math on the Kaplan is basic fractions, proportions and percentages. The science is supposed to be hard and the writing tricky.

ShineOn, I am finishign A&P II at NCTC. I am ready to move on to the next phase!

I think Gainesville is better for the info sessions, because when I went the nursing director advised but at Corinth, the person who gave information gave out a lot of misinformation! From what I have read and heard there is no vocabulary on the Kaplan, but the writing section is hard.

From my understanding the Teas V is overall the hardest but I only know a few people who have taken it, the Hesi and Kaplan. Basically they said exactly what you said TWishes about the Kaplan. It will probably serve you well to be in A&P II just before the test! Everything will be fresh in your mind. I finished A&P II like 18 months ago so I'm going to review like crazy. Are you going to get the Kaplan review book? I heard it's most helpful for the writing part. I'm thinking about getting it because I'm worried my Hesi review book won't be in depth enough.

Good luck to both of you, hopefully we will all meet this fall!

From what I have read and heard the Kaplan review is useless except for reading comprehension. I actually picked up a Kaplan SAT writing book. I deliberately set myself up to take A&P II as my last class before the Kaplan, in hopes that it would help! :-) I do have the Kaplan review book, but as I said most people say it is a waste of money and I only use it for the reading part.

There are some good posts on here somewhere regarding the Kaplan from someone who took it at NCTC last semester. It is hard to find and every time I try I have to spend time looking for it, but he/she gives good info about what to expect.

Have you had much of a chance to go thru the SAT writing book yet? That's pretty much what I heard about the Kaplan review book too, that the writi g is the only worthwhile section in it. I noticed the NCTC website recommends the Little Brown Book I think for part of the study materials but I haven't checked it out yet. Finding a good reading/writing review is the hardest for me & I heard the Kaplan review book is set up just like the test in that section so I might see if I can find a cheap copy for that section @ least. From the Hesi, I can easily see where that section can be very tricky. Are you applying anywhere else too?

I will look for that post about the Kaplan over the weekend. Thanks

I have looked at the SAT writing book. I try to study a little bit every week for the Kaplan if I can. The reading section of the Kaplan study guide is what I heard is most like the actual exam. I really think any book you have will be ok for the reading comprehension section. Apparently writing and A&P II is difficult to find a way to study, I don't know if my method will work but I hope so. I didn't get the brown book.

For this upcoming application period, I only plan to apply to NCTC. If that doesn't work out, then I will spend the next semester studying for the TEAs V and retaking my 15 year old chemistry and apply to TWU or WGU. I'd like to go to NCTC so I don't have to drive to Dallas and because the hospitals where they do clinical are local for me.

Lucky you. I'm like an hour away but I will do whatever it takes. I thought I would record lectures and listen to them on the commute. I'm closer to Collin but is missed the sign ups for the PSB. I also applied to Grayson College up in Denison but between the two, I think NCTC is my first choice. I thought about WGU also, but I don't know much about it yet.
