NCLEX is tomorrow, and my husband's in the hospital.......

Published

........breathe, patsy, just keep breathing.......

tomorrow morning is my first attempt at NCLEX, and we had to call 911 for my husband yesterday!

He just turned 40, and was having severe chest pains. "huge pressure" were his exact words...diaphoretic, no radiating pains, lookin' like a big pile o' crap. He did crack his sternum in a surfing accident in high school, so sometimes if he sleeps in a bad position, it bothers him--but he said this was much more intense.

There's a big family history of cardiac issues. His dad died at 45 of a massive MI, father's twin brother had a heart transplant in his 50's. My husband has some flutters, and has seen cardiologists in the past. No meds. Holter monitor showed nothing. stress tests, nothing. Over the past 10+ years he's been hospitalized a couple of times for chest pain. No MI's and no meds ordered.

So, the police and ambulance show up -- much to the delight of my 3 year old,( and the dismay of my almost 1 year old) and off he went. EKG and enzymes looked good, cholesterol slightly elevated, triglycerides looked the worst.

Any ideas on what the problem is ?

Have you figured it out yet?

survey says.......

Gallbladder!!

looks like gallstones and the gall bladder itself is thickened and also lookin' like a big pile o' crap, so out she goes!

so probably surgery on wed, and I am seriously having trouble focusing for tomorrow. Matter of fact I'm killing time here instead of taking just one more review test. Up until yesterday, I was feelin' pretty good about my preparations....

say a prayer...

Sorry you're having such a difficult time. I went through something very similar and came out of it OK. I'm sure you'll do great. Good luck.:pumpiron:

I just took my NCLEX this morning. 75 questions. California, so I won't know the results from 2 days to 4 weeks from now. Yuck! Try to stay focused if this is at all possible. I know this is a trying time anyway, I can't imagine having to deal with the illness of a family member too. But..........good thing is that it is not an MI. Good luck tomorrow, you will pass.

you may cancel 24hrs prior to taking nclex but if u havent had the time, either you dont show up if you feel u are too pressured with the present situation and pay another $200 to take the test or go on with it. those wer the choices.

i am so sorry for what is happenning at the moment, i hope that your husband is now feeling well.

if you went on with nclex, i hope you pass. i am sending all the best of luck to yah.

take a deep breath, relax and pray. He will not let you down. may He bless your body, mind and soul, may He bless you focus and strenght. May He heal your hubby as well.

Good luck...

How awful for you but at least you know that he's gonna be just fine now so if you haven't had time to cancel stay focussed & beat the beast!

Good luck to you!

ok, so I'm getting my my clothes on this am, my three y/o asks a question, I look at him and answer and my one y/o falls and hits his head. It was 7:30am, and I wanted to be on the road by 8:15 to Princeton. Crap!

I iced his forehead (nice egg forming) check his pupils (reactive) and give lots of hugs and kisses. It was too late to cancel the test, my mother in law (a nurse) came over to watch him for a couple of hours and assess him further including a bottle (no vomiting).

I cried the way to the test, and cried after and then I unexpectedly vomited in the parking lot..crazy, I know.

The test stopped at 75, and the questions were so challenging! Meds I had never heard of before. I cried when it stopped, because I didn't feel like I had done well. I wanted more questions, wanted to show that I do know my stuff! I just don't know what to say, it was sooooo bad!

Hubby's surgery is Thursday, following some antibiotics. My son appears to be fine, was laughing and popping up and down when I got him this afternoon. What a day!

patsy...I just wanted to let you know I am cheering and praying for you. I think we all hit that magic number (I had 75 too) and walk out crying swearing we failed...I passed teh first time and I am sure you did too...and if not then you just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again knowing that you had a lot on your plate this morning when you took your test. Please do keep us posted and I hope your husband feels better soon.

Man, that's crazy because I had gallstones at twenty years old and I thought I was having a heart attack too!

I was in class three days later, so all ended up well.

I'll keep your husband and you as well in my prayers.

thanks Auntie-- nice to hear positive thoughts !

Worst case, it's just 45 days to retest. I just really want to get to work, though!

All the best with your results! I hope your husband and son are ok, and I hope they both get better soon! :)

best of luck keep us posted
