NCLEX-RN review book suggestion?

If anyone has already taken and passed the exam, what is the best book to study with? I am taking this exam on my own (without any paid review class) and I need to make sure I study with the right book.

Thank you!

I haven't taken and passed the NCLEX yet (I'm actually in the same position you are- studying on my own), but my husband just took and passed the NCLEX this past June. He did the HURST review course and loved it, but you don't have to take the class if you want the material...they actually make a HURST NCLEX review study guide and its great. I'm also studying Saunders NCLEX and I love it a lot.

I graduated and took my NCLEX-RN in 2007, all I used was the Saunders book. They have a CD in the book with almost 3000-5000 questions you can study from and I did that everyday. I paced myself and found that using the CD was very useful because the rationale were listed with the answers. I didn't take a review class, although my school offered me one. I needed to study on my own, and I'm glad I saved my money. Good Luck

I used the Saunders book and also took the Kaplan review course which included a weekly 3 hour long review session, a book and online access to review videos. I passed my boards the first time, and I really feel the review course was the key to passing. They showed us what the questions were really going to be like and taught us strategies in answering them. It was worth every cent, especially since my job reimbursed me for the course when I passed the boards, lol.

Hi,

I used Saunders for both my LPN and RN, passed both the first time without any review classes. Good luck!

the Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination (4th edition) is the BEST book out there.... atleast from what I have found.

The book covers every body system, how to study, what to know, it also has color pictures and a CD with review questions.

-BEST OF LUCK-

Saunders for sure!!! Look at the nclex forum and look for Suzzane's plan. It worked wonders for me and I took it twice! =D (the time I passed I used Saunders and Suzzanes plan, the first time I used mosby's)

Saunders is all you truly need. That is all I used and I passed first try with 75 questions.

I used the CD that came with the book, did about 50-100 Q's a day and read every rationale. It's all you need. You don't need to pay for any of those expensive courses.

NCLEX is NOT hard!

Saunders is definitely the way to go. I also used NCLEX 4000. I passed the first time with 75 questions. My school also offered a review course with Mark Klimek. Mark Klimek's course helped me a lot with the psych questions, but other than that I didn't get anything out of it I couldn't get from Saunders. Good luck!

I'm in the same situation-limited funding (new grad, single mom). I've heard nothing but good things about Suzanne's Plan for NCLEX review. It is free and listed here in this forum (check out the link above). She uses Saunder's Comprehensive Review 4th edition. I wish you well!!!

I'm glad to hear that so many used Saunders and passed because that is what I'm using. I'm sure I could have scraped up $500 for a review course, but the frugal side of me said that I could do just as well studying on my own. Good luck to everyone who is taking the NCLEX!

I took the Hurst review (which was great), used Saunders, and NCLEX 4000 and passed the first time with 75 questions!!
