Hospitals Hiring only Nurses with BSN Degree
hmm... i would like to disagree with you on the fact that there is a shortage of active rn's. i graduated with a class of 120 from a bsn program a little while back and know that there are still about 20 nurses that are still looking for full time positions. however, i don't agree with having associate nurses go back to get their bsn's. these nurses who have hospital experience already are more than qualified to provide competent care. making a bsn mandatory for new graduating nurses is a good path to explore in the future though.

What type of a nurse are you?
"i would describe myself as one who remains calm during trials and i know that getting angry at any time only burns my candle out mighty quick. i am sometimes caught up in the tasks and not spending enough time seeing the entire gestalt of the goals of the care, the plan of care. my goal is mainly to get my patients back to the real world soon and unthinkable to anything that would hinder its fruition. " nicely put.... couldnt of said it better myself

NCLEX-RN review book suggestion?
the Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination (4th edition) is the BEST book out there.... atleast from what I have found. The book covers every body system, how to study, what to know, it also has color pictures and a CD with review questions. -BEST OF LUCK- :mnnnrsngrk:

Learning thread (ER medicine)
I had a similar incident earlier this week in the ER. A patient came in who was determined to have a seizure (witnessed by paramedics) but was not postictal at all. He was aggressive and ****** off that they brought him to the hospital. Some responses to questions made sense while others didn't. his tox screen came back negative for everything. The pt had a psych history also. I was told that in some patients with psych history, that are taking psych meds, they may have a different postictal state than the normal person. I found this very interesting... he said it had to do with the neuro make up and the use of psych meds.

how to deal with a know-it-all?
Haha, I believe I would take a more direct route than mentioned above. Ignoring this type of person usually doesn't work. I would say, "I know you think your all that and a bag of chips, but I really don't need your help with this, if I need it in the future then I will ask for it.":smokin: Trust me, it works. I'm sure if he is doing it to you then he is doing it to other people. He will leave you alone and go and mess with others

Yet another IV question
i would suggest using the butterfly catheter instead of the straight. this would totally eliminate the chances of twisting the catheter and would give you a little more length to work with then attaching the tubing. just my two cents
