If anyone has already taken and passed the exam, what is the best book to study with? I am taking this exam on my own (without any paid review class) and I need to make sure I study with the right book.

Thank you!

Hands-down, Saunders Comp Review! Do the assessment on the CD and then look over the areas you did poorly on and do the questions on the CD!!!

People love Saunders but I think the questions on Kaplan's online Qbank (kinda pricey) were pretty much exactly like NCLEX questions. It's not a review, but reading the rationales for all the questions really helps.

Quick Update: I passed the boards! Praise be to the Lord! I used Saunders Comprehensive Review. I studied for about 1-2 hours a day by going through the questions and reading the rationales. I thought the actual exam was very hard. I only got 75 questions. Best wishes to those of you who're still getting ready.

I had Prentice Hall's (Pearson's) and my gf had Saunders. They are both good books. Prentice Hall's is a bit bigger and a bit cheaper though. However it seems like the questions on the NCLEX were alot harder than what is in both books (though their questions weren't a walk in the park either).

It does seem that way, doesn't it? I wonder sometimes if they use the questions that were rejected on the NCLEX. LOL

I took a weighed test for my ASCP certification (medical techology) and using a MT study and an RN study guide I got about 60% of the questions on the study guide correct for both so I guess that's the trick, study until you can at least get 60% on a study guide. I remember breezing through the 1st 5 questions and then the level went way up and I was like *** is going on?

Just remember, 80% of people pass the 1st time. So odds are if you get a question that you've never seen before that means that its a high level and neither did anyone else.

A lot of my school mates had Kaplan. My hiring hospital paid for a 4 week comprehensive Silvestri NCLEX review. However, they gave it to me 2 weeks before NCLEX, so I did some of it...and then took the comprehensive and CAT exams at the end. I used Saunders NCLEX Review book mostly. I passed after 75 questions.
