For those that don't care to read my life story - read only the bolded
So, I was at the testing site today at 11am for my 2pm test. I reviewed for a bit, came on allnurses for a bit and mustered the cojones to walk in there at 1pm. I was signed in and sitting at the computer by like 1:15 and at around 2:30ish, after 75 questions, my screen went blue.
I was so nervous the entire time. Especially in the beginning. It took me like 20mins to do the tutorial! I pressed myself up against the desk and the chair and could see my head bopping with each heartbeat... it was nerve-wrenching, to say the least. But then the questions started coming and I realized - I KNOW THIS!! and I heard my fiance's voice in my head telling me I could do it and to just treat it like any other practice test. And that's exactly what I did. Next thing I knew it was over. I walked out of there thinking that the fact that I found it so "easy" was probably a bad sign. I started to get sad...
I knew it would be a bad idea to drive home feeling all so I decided to try the PVT from my phone. After my phone finally decided to work this is what I got: "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Please contact your Member Board for further assistance. Another registration cannot be made at this time." Seeing that I got soooo giddy! I was relieved!! I know a lot of people say it doesn't give them any real satisfaction, but it certainly left me satisfied! I only counted the SATA, of which I had 15. A ton of priority questions too. But since I was under the impression that SATA were the highest priority those were the ones I focused on counting. I figured it would give me a pretty decent estimate of how I was doing.
Just a little background on my study habits: my memory has ADD (no offense to anyone who might actually have ADD/ADHD), but it refuses to retain the information that's put in front of it or to focus on the task at hand. EVER. Even as I was taking the NCLEX I noticed several times when I wondered off somewhere past the question on the screen as if I was looking at nothing at all. In order for me to somewhat retain information I have to write it out in a way that makes sense to me. But the content for the NCLEX is way too much so I didn't do that. Lol. Instead I took a prep course that focused predominately on content (mainly because I had been out of school for a semester due to unforeseen circumstance in between my first year and second year of nursing school). It was awesome and I felt somewhat focused. But then I didn't get my ATT right away so I just started pretending to study to kill time. When I finally got a date I made a plan but I didn't stick to it. I slowly reviewed more content and then I found those Kaplan question trainers! And boy were those helpful! They really helped me zone in what I needed to do to answer the questions correctly. In trainers 1-6, I scored 60%, 67%, 60%, 68%, 66% and 61%. I didn't take the last one because by then I was so done looking at questions!! I also used Exam Cram (the weekend before my exam) for some quick content, several study guides I found on allnurses and like 3 comprehensive ATI practice exams (1 provided to me by my nursing school and 2 by the prep course I took).
Kind of questions I got: OB and Peds - 5-10, a lot more than I was expecting, but it wasn't a bad thing.
Psych questions I got like 4, maybe less.
A bunch of meds, some I knew, some I didn't. But the majority I knew.
15 SATAs - these were the only ones I actually counted, because I knew they were the higher end questions.
A ton of priority. I'll say like 15-25.
Less than 5 on delegation.
The rest were miscellaneous - DM, liver, AIDS, I even got one on pericare! lol
I didn't get any dosage questions, audio, ordered, pictures, or exhibits.

Congrats:hug: I love reading stories like this!! Thanks for letting us know what you used for prep.
Thanks all. I'm pretty much over the moon right now! I really hope the PVT doesn't fail me. I'll be pretty bummed if I find out I failed in 2 days! lol.
You guys can do this! Content is key, but questions are important too. If I hadn't used those Kaplan QTs I think I might not have been so sure of my answers... They really do a good job at depicting the NCLEX. As far as the dreaded SATA, just do True vs False. I think that's the best way to go about them. But if you don't know the content you can't know if it's true or not!

Congrats!! Did you wait an hour to the PVT or did you try it within minutes from finishing the test? Did you have to wait for it to say "delivery successful" or did you just go for it? BTW what state are you from?
I waited the time it took me to turn on my phone and walk to my car! Lol. But I did make sure that I said delivery successful first. So that was all of 5-10 mins
