Nclex application expired after 3 years. Required to go back to school.

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Don't make this mistake:confused:!!! I put through my application to take the Nclex. I took the test several times and failed. I was so dissappointed I did not take the test again for a year of so. I finally decided to take my test again in April. I sent my money into continental testing and pearson vue. I found out at that time that my application had expired in February. There was no refund for my money. I only had three years to take my nclex or my application would expire. This change went into effect around 2007. Now I am required to go back to school to show 2 additional years of nursing school before I am eligible to take the nclex again. FASA will not pay for me to retake my nursing classes because I would be auditing. Grants do not pay for Auditing classes. I cannot get into a BSN program because I never received my license. I am at a dead end. Any suggestions. Frustrated and really disappointed in myself for not persuing my life long dream.

Call to the other states mentioned in these posts and see what can be done. This thread was started two years ago so it's unlikely the original poster will return.

Thanks for the reply St. Clare and Perry. And Perry, that's great to know and goodluck on the 28th! Btw, have you taken NCLEX-RN 16 yrs ago? I will try and research abt how is it possible to take it in other states. Pls keep us updated. God bless us all!

Yes, but I hadn't put much effort in because I had an LPN license and had gotten married, had children. But I am ready to do this and I will pass boards this time!! You just need to find a state that you can take it in!

I wonder if I can take the Nclex- PN exam and never tried it within those 3 yrs. Yup...please include me in your prayers and you'll be with me too. thanks APerry5675. I'm a mom and wife too :D - had been so busy and didn't know 3 yrs and time passed by...not knowing there was this IL Nurse Practice Act that my eligibility will be due plus I have to earn and work full time coz there's bills to pay- don't know if I"ll still ever be an RN with the bon of my state IL requiring another 2 yrs of professional nursing education so that I can apply and retake here again I hope my previous studies will not just go to waste so I'm willing to try other states and maybe I can concentrate well and pass it soon when my kid will be in highschool or college :D - wish Im younger but here goes the sense of aging making me think twice if I will be paying for my schooling again or just saving some for the kids education rather than mine. Now hopes totally lost if I will have to go back to school -that will take around 5 yrs in the process ( I don't know how long Im gonna live me being 41 now ( it's my second course though)- maybe NO I cannot comply with the Nurse Practice Act of additional yrs of study and that will be the end... really, there's so much about life..the phases we go through unlike when Im just in my teens and twenties. It's hard to apply to community colleges or nursing schools again, entrance, admissions and passing credentials and requirements and waiting to get in their program just like doing it all over again ... a nightmare for my fails and a nightmare and punishment that I have to spend for repeat education ( 2 yrs and that's a lot plus processing to be admitted again) . It's good you were able to get an LPN license then -- wished I tried to test for that too - I will ask them if I can. Thanks Perry... we had the hardest and biggest career ever and that is taking care of our family and children plus the work we do. Yes you will pass the boards!!! Yes we will!!! - with me in other states :D ( God help please...) I always pray and ask help for HIS guidance...

I'm on the same boat Jportis. I just took my last NCLEX test. I dont think I passed it. InAugust of this year I completed 3 years since I graduated. Im going to try IOWA and retake the test in Iowa since it's the closest to me. This post was a great help! Thank you!!

is there a reason why many people wait many YEARS to take the NCLEX???I cant imagine graduating from nursing and waiting so long before taking the exam. I will always have this nagging reminder at the back of my heading haunting me about the dreaded NCLEX. Even after failing the test the first time, I quickly applied for the test again, just to get it out the way, lol. Maybe cause I have no choice but to pass this damn exam and start a career. Time is ticking..

Yes, I am in the process of getting ready to take my Nclex in Wisconsin. They do not have a cap on how long you have been out of school. But I have until April 2014 to register to take my test or I will have to pay the fees all over again. Sorry for the late response. I haven't been on this web site in a while.

Hi, Sorry for the late response. I haven't been on this website for a while. I am in the process of preparing to take my NCLEX again. After so many years. But I have faith that I will pass. I registered with the Board of Nursing in Wisconsin. They do not have cap on the amount of time you have been out of school. I can take the test in IL for Wisconsin. I am just taking it one step at a time. My main goal right now is to get my license. And I will handle the rest as it comes as far as transferring it to another state.

My reason is I moved half way around the world with my husband and helped build his business and also had children its been 8 years since graduation and in life sometimes these things just happen.

Hi

Im in the same situation, having my eligibility expire this year. I was wondering if Wisconsin asks for proof of primary residency. How did you address taking the test in a different state? Or was it not an issue? Also, did you just apply for licensure or did you do licensure by endorsement. I've been out three years and you are an inspiration as you also have a family!
