Don't make this mistake:confused:!!! I put through my application to take the Nclex. I took the test several times and failed. I was so dissappointed I did not take the test again for a year of so. I finally decided to take my test again in April. I sent my money into continental testing and pearson vue. I found out at that time that my application had expired in February. There was no refund for my money. I only had three years to take my nclex or my application would expire. This change went into effect around 2007. Now I am required to go back to school to show 2 additional years of nursing school before I am eligible to take the nclex again. FASA will not pay for me to retake my nursing classes because I would be auditing. Grants do not pay for Auditing classes. I cannot get into a BSN program because I never received my license. I am at a dead end. Any suggestions. Frustrated and really disappointed in myself for not persuing my life long dream.

Could you indicate where you are located that you are placed in this situation? How many years has it been since your graduation? Can't you find a prelicensure BSN program to apply to? That is what I would do under the circumstances. You may have to move to return to school. Or, perhaps, applying for a license and testing in another state might be an option. Worth looking into.

Hi try another state. Call every state and find out.
Thanks for the response. I am located in illinois. I graduated in 2007. I will look into other states to see if the same guildelines apply.

I checked with the website of the Iowa Boards of Nursing. There seems to be no restrictions as when you graduated and how many times you can retake the boards for your RN. I am also in IL. Taking Boards next week and for the Iowa Licensure for my RN. Get your RN in Iowa and then apply for Illinois.
I would suggest you look at CA. You can take the NCLEX as often as you care to pay for it.

This same rule applies to my state Utah, it use to be no cap on taking tests or expiration of time. So I am going through california also because I took too long.

It depends on your state. Call your State board and ask, or see if the information is on their website.
