Nclex application expired after 3 years. Required to go back to school.

Don't make this mistake:confused:!!! I put through my application to take the Nclex. I took the test several times and failed. I was so dissappointed I did not take the test again for a year of so. I finally decided to take my test again in April. I sent my money into continental testing and pearson vue. I found out at that time that my application had expired in February. There was no refund for my money. I only had three years to take my nclex or my application would expire. This change went into effect around 2007. Now I am required to go back to school to show 2 additional years of nursing school before I am eligible to take the nclex again. FASA will not pay for me to retake my nursing classes because I would be auditing. Grants do not pay for Auditing classes. I cannot get into a BSN program because I never received my license. I am at a dead end. Any suggestions. Frustrated and really disappointed in myself for not persuing my life long dream.

In the state of Florida after failing the test 3 times you are required to take a state board remedial approved program there is no limit to how many times you take it

Hi, just wanted to know how did you apply in state of wi?what do they need?thanks

Hi, Sorry for the late response. I haven't been on this website for a while. I am in the process of preparing to take my NCLEX again. After so many years. But I have faith that I will pass. I registered with the Board of Nursing in Wisconsin. They do not have cap on the amount of time you have been out of school. I can take the test in IL for Wisconsin. I am just taking it one step at a time. My main goal right now is to get my license. And I will handle the rest as it comes as far as transferring it to another state.

hi, im in the same situation as you are. How did you apply or register in wisconsin?

so miacerene did you find out anything if IL BON has refresher course or you have to take LPN program all over again? let me know thanks

I graduated from nursing LPN school and couldn't pass my nclex. My time with Illinois has expired and I was wondering if anyone knows if I can apply for my license in the state of Iowa. I just can't see having to go back to school all over again. My story is similar to a lot of people. Graduated took my first test and failed. Was working construction over the road to catch up on bills and got caught up in trying to make ends meet which got in the way of my studying. I've taken the nclex three times and failed each time. I'm so disappointed in myself but I know I can pass it. I know God didn't allow me to go through all that crying, late nights, neglect from family and friends just to have a paper saying that I graduated. I really want to finish what I started. Can I get my LPN license through the state of Iowa? I'm asking because I'm under the assumption that this post I read was about an LPN trying to get their RN. What about graduate trying to become and LPN? Please help! Thanks and God bless in advance.

Look at the IA BoN application for license by examination. You likely can't endorse to IL if IL BoN required to return to school.

Thanks a lot. One more question. If I gey license in Iowa seeing that it's a compact state with Missouri can I endorse to Missouri?

If you don't live in Iowa you have a single state license not a multi state license. If you live in IA you can't have a license in any other compact state. If you live in MS you can't apply in IA.

If you live in IL (non compact) you can have a single state license in all 49 other states but don't meet the criteria for IL without returning to school

Thanks for your help. I just currently moved to Iowa but I have a twelve year old daughter in Missouri and I am trying to be closer to her. I just want to see her more often.

If you are a legal resident of Iowa and pass the nclex PN this attaining an IA LPN license you can use that same license in MS to work if you keep your IA address that's the point of the NLC. However scope of practice for LPN may differ between states

Thanks so much for your information I really appreciate it. I'm going to apply to take the nclex soon. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.
