Failed NCLEX at 133 questions.. First attempt

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I took my NCLEX RN yesterday. Computer shut off at around 133 questions. I had over 20 SATA, I had math, drag and organize and I had 3 EKG strips!!! I felt was doing ok and found out this morning I failed. To prepare I did NCSBN 3 week course, mainly focused on the questions not do much the content of the lessons. I had the Kaplan book, I did over 400 questions there. Saunders book. I did the comprehensive exam in the back. And I used the mastery app. I would do 200-400 questions a day.

I was calm going into the NCLEX and I felt good. And when the computer shut off I didn't know how to feel. My last question was SATA.

Now i feel horrible and don't know how to prepare. I saw UWORLD but have not met anyone who's done it. Kaplan and Hurst are out of my price range. I also thought of doing the 5 week NCSBN and going lesson by lesson.

Help please! I don't want to fail again. I can retest in 45 days and I want to pass!!!

UWorld is the bomb .com and cheap! I used hurst some because I needed the content. But after I got my ATT I solely used uworld. The rationales are like reading a book, so informative. For me it helped me a ton! And they layout was practically identical to NCLEX. Passed in 75 questions and I truly struggled so much through nursing school.

I would say do uworld. I've seen a ton of people who passed using it! Good luck to you and don't give up! You can do it!!

It's just the shock stage right now

in nursing school I got by

but the NCLEX had questions and topics I felt I'd never seen before. And everyone said if you get a ton of SATA your good and that wasn't the case

i know I should take the day off but I want to be proactive and I want to "fix" this!

Specializes in Hematology/Oncology.

PURCHASE UWORLD & Lacharity's PDA ASAP! and re-take the exam within the 45 day period (if you can).

Be sure to still study ALL areas when you get your NCLEX report back but focus more attention to your weak categories.

Diligently stick to those two study materials above, make sure to pay attention & thoroughly read the rationals.

You shall not go wrong, you WILL pass the next time, we all fall short.

YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE...all the best to you!

Thanks!

Yeah I am not waiting. I will retest in the 45 days!

Definitely UWorld. And yes, I think it is a bad idea to start freaking yourself out about how many SATA questions you get. I personally got about 50% SATA and passed, but also have friends who got many fewer and also passed. Don't try to guess whether or not each question is harder than the last or not either, it will drive you crazy.

Yeah I am jumping back on studying Monday

I want to retest in the 45 days

I plan to do the Uworld 30 day review and read the PDA book

also am open to another other review recommendations

thanks

I would recommend Uworld as well! My school made us get Kaplan, but I didn't like the rationale from Kaplan. Uworld rationale is so much more detailed. I used Hurst, but since you're tight on money you can go without it. It was good, but didn't really help me as much as Uworld. Since you have the Saunders book, if you come across a topic you need brushing up on while doing Uworld, that book will help. Good Luck!

it just seems like you are describing my experience..... i dont want to make my family spend money for another book or test plan. wish i had some to borrow me Uwold it is virtually the only thing i have not used.

UWorld for sure!! I failed my first attempt. I had a Kaplan class and I bought the Qbank and did all of the questions. I didn't like Kaplan's rationales, but UWorlds are completely different! It's a content review just in itself! Read all the rationales-even if you get the question right. I was exactly like you, I felt sad and defeated and like a failure. UWorld is 100% worth the $60 dollars!

Uworld seems doable since it's only. $59

better than the Kaplan $399 review course.

Ncsbn is good and I feel I didn't use it to its full potential

Thanks.

I am taking today to cry it all out

and starting Monday I'm back on the study boat!

My BON should be sending me the packet to retest

which could take "couple" weeks they said

so Monday I'm starting Saunders and Uworld

so that I can finish both of them by the time I retest

I also am going to review my Kaplan book for questions but in conjunction with Saunders

i feel I had issues with content

also I'm going to review some math!!!

I had 3 math on the nckex and I feel as if I over though the math!! Since I hadn't done math in awhile
